US soldier kills 5 fellow soldiers

Image

"A US soldier has shot dead five of his colleagues at a base in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, the Pentagon says."

Looks like the soldier is now in custody and an investigation has been launched.

    • He most likely has a mental problem for being in war. People could of probably noticed something weird about the guy, the government should help him if he does have mental problems, if not well he's probably going to jail.

    • ''You are including George W. and Bill Clinton? Cause Bills the one that cut the weapons and humvee armor funding. And a draft dodger as well.''

Oh YES Nursediesel..............Bill Clinton went to Oxford University as part of his draft dodging tactics. They never risk their lives.....always somebody elses son or daughter riding around in a Humvee without armour plating, while they ride around in armour plated Mercedes...or whatever Americans ride in.....GM limos or Fords I suspect.

    • We should be sentencing the men that lied their way to send these young people into this terrible situation.

Draft dodgers sent them............on the false excuse that they were eliminating (the nonexistent) WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION.

They sent soldiers into combat without proper equipment................sent them to risk their lives with poor equipment (the Humvees).

    • This is terrible disheartening. Our soldiers are suffering from severe mental illnesses such as PTSD due to military combat. What these soldiers need are better healthcare facilities and physicians that actually want to help them. It is not uncommon for the Pentagon to tell the Physicians not to diagnose the soldier.

I would understand that they need to pay for their crimes. But, I don't think sentencing them to death or a life prison sentence. What they need to be sentenced to is a mandatory admittance to a mental care facility.

    • Civil libertarians are condemning a call by two influential U.S. senators for the White House to block the impending release of photographs showing detainees being abused by U.S. military personnel at the notorious Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq and at other American detention facilities in the Middle East and elsewhere.

The plea to intervene to stop the expected May 28 release of the photos came in a letter Thursday to President Barack Obama from Senators Joseph Lieberman and Lindsey Graham.

"The release of these old photographs of past behavior that has now been clearly prohibited will serve no public good, but will empower al-Qaeda propaganda operations, hurt our country's image, and endanger our men and women in uniform," the Senators wrote.

    • MESSAGE SENT TO BEN

      RE POST:

      You sent BenDorries a message on Mon, 11 May 2009 16:48:09 +0000

      Dear Ben,
Perhaps the staff can do as they please, but I posted that story when it was BREAKING NEWS with CNN :
      http://current.com/items/90036689_u-s-soldier-in-baghdad-kills-four-fellow-troop...
I got the message at 1519hrs (Time in IRELAND) and I immediately posted it two hours ago.
My post has worked its way up to NUMBER 20, but as staff you have all the advantage.
Seems unfair that the staff can then post it later and have it picked to feature.
Yes....I feel that current ethics leave a lot to be desired and I shall be making my feelings known about this Ben. Not being personal to you, but this is a fact that all current members should be aware of.....and we should have a more democratic system in place.

Hey Highr0ller - I actually did feature your article first - but upon reviewing it your information was wrong (the soldier did not kill himself) and the source you clipped was www.cnn.com - not the actual article.
Sorry about the confusion - but as breaking news I felt it necessary to feature correct information.
      Yours,
      -Ben

      =======================

You could have emailed me, or just posted a correction on it....when the story broke it said he'd killed himself. Even that would have added to the story as it unfolded. Looks like staff have all the advantages to me.

      Anyone else agree?

I do. I see where the staff at current always gets the advantage on stories that get featured. That vsiskos guy has got to have 75% of his stories " picked for tv"
I also see where the editors sometimes even post they have corrected a stroy that they wanted to feature.

its their toy, I guess they get to make the rules.

    • I'll be watching this story. It happened at a stress clinic, some form of therapy?!? What went wrong, horribly wrong? Do they let soldiers carry while in therapy? I hope the military rethinks it's rules/regs for stress clinics.
Wonder if the other GI's were known to him before the clinic or were therapists, or psychiatrists...? This guy needed more than stress counciling...ouch!
