FrankZemo thinks a comment like this is cute, or slick? “If they need marijuana THAT bad...maybe we should push for Euthanasia legislation instead. I mean, countries have recognized that as a "basic human right" (Switzerland comes to mind)” I think it's just sad!
I hope he is typing on his keyboard in another country. I hate to think of him as an American. His comment is shameful, not slick, or cute!

NJ has been abusing this issue as a political football.Meanwhile I am closing in on my end of life issues. My Brain is starting to fail me and that will hasten my body's lack of response to illness and disease.Having hiv and surviving Cancer in my head and neck at stage 3 which is unheard of coupled with stage 4 cirrosis and multiple other serious problems, tells me this is my fight.I fight for health care all the time anyway.Maybe i should be fighting for dead peoples property tax laws instead.

Voices like your's are the most important in this fight. Politicians might be able to ignore average joes, but they can't ignore the sick. There are people who are being deprived of this effective painkiller...change needs to happen sooner than later.
My heart goes out to you.

Another truly great one Jack; Thanks !!
Day by day and inch by inch progress is being made towards the acceptance of cannabis. The days of Reefer Madness is now known for what it is; Reefer Madness. Fear is a real thing. Even when the reasons for it are unfounded.
But humanity is a real thing too. Police Officers are not exempt; and if any group of people know the dangers of drug use - this is the group. They see the worst; ALL of it. Yet many are now breaking ranks. This because they HAVE seen it all.
After WWII when the German Army was reconstituted, one of the founding principles was a return to Prussian values. German officers are no longer taught blind obedience. It's now their duty and obligation to refuse any order they consider morally wrong.
This post about Mr. Gierach & Mr. Ware reminds me very much of that. A former prosecutor & a former Police Captain who's now a former chemo patient who used medical marijuana. These gentlemen have truly seen both sides. This article speaks truth & speaks in favor of medical cannabis. Their appeal for passage of the bill shows respect for the opinions of their colleagues but also cites the facts behind their support.
I think this conclusion says it all:
Illinois’ sick and dying cannot wait any longer for a sensible, compassionate law that allows them access to doctor-recommended medical marijuana when all other options have failed. The discomfort some in law enforcement may feel about such a law does not approach that of seriously ill patients who struggle every day for relief and who often risk arrest to achieve it.
As compassionate, concerned Illinoisans, we urge our elected leaders to act quickly on behalf of their most suffering constituents and pass this medical marijuana law now. - 3 years ago
