"Gates Defends Decision To Close Gitmo"
http://www.kake.com/federal/headlines/45846517.html
"Defense Secretary Robert Gates says the Obama administration had no choice but to order the shutdown of the prison at Guantanamo because "the name itself is a condemnation" of U.S. anti-terrorism strategy."
“Petraeus Endorses Obama's Plans To Close GITMO, End Torture”

http://crooksandliars.com/node/28447“Will the right wing attack Gen. Petraeus because he believes in closing Gitmo and hates torture too?”
“Admiral Mullen says we need to close Guantanamo Bay”http://crooksandliars.com/john-amato/admiral-mullen-says-we-need-close-guant
"McCain: Close Guantanamo Bay"
http://news.aol.com/elections-blog/2007/03/18/mccain-close-guantanamo-bay/
"McCain, in an interview with Britain's Sunday Telegraph, has vowed to try and fix that "ugly American" image that our current president has helped foster in much of the world. How to accomplish this feat? First, close the prison at Guantanamo Bay and "expedite judicial proceedings" for the remaining prisoners."
"Gitmo and Torture: Slam Dunks?"
http://blogs.abcnews.com/thenumbers/2009/01/gitmo-and-tortu.html
"On Gitmo, 53 percent in our latest ABC/Post poll support finding some other way to deal with terrorism suspects; 42 percent instead would keep the military detention center open. On torture, 58 percent favor an outright ban, while 40 percent wouldn’t flatly rule it out."
So let's see. There's the Secretary of Defense, the current Chairman of the Joint Chiefs (Admiral Mullen), the former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs (Colin Powell) General Petraeus, Senator McCain, a number of Republican House and Senate members, The President, and an increasingly large segment of the population..
They all want GITMO closed.
But gen468 knows better. All of them cowards is libruls wanting to encourage the overthrow of our way of living.
BTW which "collage" did you attend?

Would this latest Hannity insanity surprise you?
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/05/26/olbermann-mancow-intervie_n_207963.html
"Mancow reaffirmed that the practice was indeed torture and said that his "psychological state" going into the experiment was that he was "laughing at it. I was willing to prove, and ready to prove, that this was a joke, and I was wrong. It was horrific. It was instantaneous. And look, I felt the effects for two days."
Mancow also revealed that his friend Sean Hannity "called me and said 'it's still not torture.'""
So what does this tell us is the best way to determine that waterboarding isn't torture?
Claim that you're ready for it, but in fact refuse to experience it, especially if Jesse Ventura is working the hose..
Besides how could Mancow possibly know it really was torture? He only went through it! His opinion was biased! By torture!

I don't know of too many people advocating waterboarding average Joe off the street. These pansy ass reporters thinking that they are even in the same class of vermin that I DO advocate waterboarding is laughable at best. It IS an extreme tactic and should only be reserved for high value targets posessing information, you know the kind willing to send people out with bombs strapped to themselves targetting civilians, the kind that advocate flying planes loaded with civilians into buildings lodaed with civilians like a missile, that behead captured soldiers and reporters, etc. It's a harsh tactic and I fully advocate using it on this jihadist trash, not on average Joe and or the kid caught shoplifting a candy bar. Fuck the taliban, al qaeda, and any of the other extremists, if they want the protection of the Geneva conventions and the US constitution then they either need to become citizens or sign onto the Geneva conventions.

The fact that Japanese interrogators who conducted water boarding in WW-2 were tried and CONVICTED of torture should tell us all we need to know. This brings us one step closer in showing, how revolting the interrogation tactics have been at various detention camps. This dude at least had his rights to stop it whenever he wanted. Torture is torture, humans should learn to care about others considering it wouldn't be all too great if we were all emotionless apathetic individuals. Those who are responsible for endorsing these methods, should be given a taste of their own medicine. Are they "brave" enough to withstand it? Probably not.

Let's look at things rationally for a second please.
What is our goal with the people we detain? Getting information. Obviously then we want the most reliable information we can get so as to make the best decision.
If this is our goal then torture cannot be our course of action. The fact remains that under duress most people (and yes terrorists are people too just like American soldiers, not mutant superhumans) will say anything to stop the pain of torture. Thus we can never be sure that information that we glean from torture will be accurate, thereby making the whole process of torture in order to gain information an invalid one.
Furthermore, other means of interrogation NOT involving torture have been proven to be more effective and are the preferred means of interrogation by most top ranking officials in the intelligence community.
So if we have all these facts before us, how can we possibly justify torture in our efforts to gain information?
This is both an issue of what principles the U.S.A. was founded upon and claims to hold to and which methods of interrogation actually produce results. And when it comes down to it, torture doesn't fill either requirement.

If they OUTLAWED WATERBOARDING WITH WATER they could still "waterboard" terrorists with an air hose. Air and water are both fluids. I was treated to air waterboarding that lasted almost 4 years. All night, all day, no letup, no one to call off the dogs and stop the torture.
I had two semi-cancerous growths in my right nostril, one on the inside side and the other opposite to it but not straight across. So when I breathed in or out, asleep or awake, the air hit the one bounced off and rippled over the other.
RIPPLE EFFECT ='d WATERBOARDING
Suicide started looking like a MIGHTY GOOD OPTION... but I said no, I can do this. But then a very thick & deep nose hair grew in at an angle and plunged directly into a NERVE right beside the brain. It took me over a year to locate it with scissors and pliers and yank it out. Oh sure, I went to 4 different Roanoke Virginia Ear Nose and Throat "Specialists" and they would read the local Patient Profile the doctors circulate around to each other via their in-house bulletin board system, so they posted to any new doctor I would try to get help that I was bipolar.
I ended up self-diagnosing and self-treating my medical problems from a healthstore shelf. They haven't gotten any more Medicare or Medicare rider money from me in over 3 years. That's why some U.S. hospitals are closing their doors patients are stopping coming to them.
Too bad, too bad you great city, for in one hour you were burned with fire.
oh yeah, after two years or so of that and poking around searching for something to yank out with the PLIERS the one growth on the inside side suddenly decided to get larger and I grabbed that S.O.B. and yanked it out. Sure, it got infected and the infection got into my bloodstream, and yes the source of infection was directly beside my brain, but I had no choice left, no options from crap out doctors who defended their diagnoses by saying it was the bipolar.
After yanking the flesh and blood out I thought I had solved the problem but no, the hair driving into the nerve took its place. hahahaha If they did to terrorists what these 13th century Roanoke VA doctors did to me there wouldn't be any terrorists left alive in Guantanamo or an office building in Washington DC.

here is another way of looking at it tho..every person in congress who voted for this illegal war should be tried in court for all american deaths that were the result of the illegal invasion of iraq, and not just the soldiers that died there, even the ones that came back and committed suicide, they should be tried for all that because that congress and president sent these men and women off to war with out looking at any facts, or doing any thinking... people in that kinda position that make stupid decision need to be held accountable for their decisions, if not it will keep happening.

Frustration. Impatience. There was no REASON for him to do this. How could ANY reasonably intelligent person think that waterboarding was not a terribly unpleasant experience after all of the recent testimony and commentary from people who have performed it and endured it? Does he need to drive his Pontiac over an IED in order to believe that the explosions cause brain damage? I understand what you are saying slarabee, but anybody who did not believe that waterboarding was torture until they saw this clip has some serious issues through which to work. The Internet and cell phones with video have changed every aspect of American life. No longer are we ignorant of the dirty little secrets of people's lives and also of practices of this magnitude in the protection of our country. Is it too much information? Can our country win wars if the populace is calling the shots when we're fighting dictators who stop at nothing? How do military men feel about how public their efforts are these days? Are they now too busy watching their own backs to get out there and fight? Personally, I'd be afraid to fire my weapon for fear of backlash. It's got to be tough for all of them, officers and enlisted men alike.

Gee you're cynical. It may have been a publicity stunt, but I doubt very much that he would have gone through with it if he knew he was going to have to reverse his position. It's relevant to the political discourse. How isn't it? The media generally hasn't done such a great job of elucidating the issue, but it seems like whenever anyone voluntarily gets waterboarded, they never hesitate to call it torture, something the media generally does hesitate to do. So yes, it's newsworthy. Just because something isn't on your personal agenda doesn't mean it doesn't hold some importance.

If you keep this up I think its going to be a litmus test. If you don't like it it must be news.

How many days has Hannity still not undergone waterboarding for charity? 29? 30? something like that.

Hey if you watch MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann, lately on his odd ball segment he has been counting the days when Hannity will be Waterboarded & give his own money to a charity ($1,000 per second).

FallenMorgan,
Waterboarding Coulter could be very scary.
Wouldn't they have to check for a pulse before and after?
What if they never found one?
Some people think that there's no need to check.

What did he think was going to happen? He was going to let out the neocon warrior within him self. And drink up all the water with his nose? Then tell the world to stand up and pee like a real man! And stop bitching about torture. If so that was sad but thanks for trying.

I saw a brief clip of this on Countdown with Keith Olbermann on MSNBC. Current must now be a major news network now.

Let them all get in line. Any of them who have the nerve to stand up and say it's not torture, should lay down and prove it. Or, shut the hell up! Shame on them all! Shame on Cheney. He didn't even serve, how does he know torture? Cheney can change a word, but that doesn't change the law. It's against the law to authorize torture. Shame on him for having others do the dirty work for him. He made lots of money from the war, he should have to pay for some of the PTSD he caused.

how come they did not shove a pipe up his ass or beet him to a jelly first so he would be vomiting blood,...
how long did that dude last? 4 seconds? and he had control over the incident the whole time......no fear,...no brutality....no forceful actions against his will....Pathetic attempt in demonstration from the start...

The only way Rush could endure this is if he somehow set it up so he only looked like he was getting waterboarded.
