Frequent False-Positive Drug Tests With Efavirenz Users

Researchers have previously reported that random urine drug testing of people taking efavirenz sometimes results in a false-positive result for marijuana use. Though a more specific test for the active ingredient in marijuana can reveal that people aren’t actually using the drug, this has sometimes led to complications for people who must be tested for illicit drug use, such as for their jobs or as a requirement of their parole. Until now, however, there have been no studies showing that efavirenz could result in a false-positive result for benzodiazepines—including drugs such as Valium (diazepam) and Ativan (lorazepam), which are commonly abused by people with substance-use disorders.

    • I just got a new job and she asked if I used drugs. This was the first time I had to say only my prescription. I told her about my medical card and the reason I use it. She was cool and said she just doesn't want it at work. There wasn't going to be a drug test, but it actually felt kinda empowering. I hope everyone in need can get weed. Free it.

    • The worst part is alot of the people with hiv and on this medicine and on probation or parole ahs already suffered the punishment and yet to be vindicated.

    • Some of the laziest scumbags I have ever met were sober. Some of the hardest working people used some form of drug. How do the justify judging us so. I am sick of all this.

    • More to the point, for those companies that conduct drug tests; are you doing yourself any good? Or are you getting rid of valuable employees? Notice any brain drain?

    • At some point we need to tell all these assholes to stay out of our piss. I dont go looking around my neighbors piss because i dont care.
      When are these drug testing companies going to be sued for violation of privacy?
