A woman who lives on Virginia Street told NEWS9 she and a friend noticed the swarm of bees, and they called a beekeeper.
The swarm was so large that they were afraid it would cause issues for locals -- so the bee keeper put out a box to try and trap them.
Other than causing a nuisance, locals said the bees did not cause any other problems.
The woman said the keeper informed folks living in the area that it is the season for bee swarming.
honey bee swarms make me happy!

We had a swarm like that on Sunday in our pitisporum tree - I was so happy and excited to see them, I was hoping they were building a hive and would stay... I think they have moved on sadly - but we do have many bees on a regular basis in our garden, and thousands come in March when the blossoms are out on the pitisporum trees - it is indeed a wonderful and welcome sight to behold and hear. Pesticides, other chemicals, and using leaf blowers will keep bees away - bees do a lot of work on the ground as well as in the flowers and trees, but the blowers leave traces of gasoline and remove what the bees like to forage about in, as well as the sound disturbing them. Leaf blowers and chemicals in the garden really have to go if you want your bees back....

i'm surprised that guy could just dump the lot of them into a box like that. i would have figured they'd go sting-crazy.

Swarming or not, it's good to see we still have bees.
