Harford Co. Woman Accused Of Sex Abuse Of Young Girls

Valerie Lianne Carlton, 40-year-old Joppa woman, has been indicted by Harford County grand jury on 28 counts that include sexual child abuse, attempted child kidnapping and extortion involving two girls, ages 5 and 6.

According to the Harford County state's attorney's office, Carlton sexually abused the two girls from January 2008 through April 2009. According to the parenst of the younger victim, Carlton was a neighbor who watched their then 4-year-old daughter on a regular basis.

After Carlton was arrested in April for sexually abusing a now 6-year-old girl, the parents decided to call child protective services, who interviewed their daughter and their worst nightmares were revealed.

The Harford County Child Advocacy Center is asking anyone with information on Carlton to call them at 410-638-3294.

    • Is it the nature of digital media that makes this type of thing seem like a epidemic or has it been this way since I was a kid? Have sexual crimes against children been common throughout history? When I go on business trips I can watch my puppy on a web cam at the kennel. Can I get that for my kid's classroom when I have one? We'll see how the puppy situation works out before procreation!

    • Which is why you should never trust anyone. Being a misanthrope is not necessarily a bad thing in cases like this. Of course, it's not always easy to find truth or falsehood in the testimony of a 5 year old....

      Good point. I've always said that the best justice in the world is that the person who is guilty has to live with themselves and know what they did for the rest of their lives. If they can quiet it enough to sleep, it will eat at them from inside and they die from heart attacks, stomach ulcers, etc. ect.

    • Pedophiles must be punished and children must be protected.
      On the other hand I strongly believe in innocent until proven guilty and medical and physical evidence of the crime are imperative as the young child is susceptible to power of suggestion and it became very easy to prosecute sex crimes that puts the innocent in jail. In our society it is hard to stay objective and not fall to sex crimes hysteria.
