Green energy investments bury Fossil Fuels for the first time ever

Wind, solar and other clean technologies attracted $140bn (£85bn) compared with $110bn for gas and coal for electrical power generation, with more than a third of the green cash destined for Britain and the rest of Europe.
The biggest growth for renewable investment came from China, India and other developing countries, which are fast catching up on the West in switching out of fossil fuels to improve energy security and tackle climate change.
Green versus Black...the odds are growing...
...and growing, and growing.

-------"In most cases, it makes sense to invest into something that pays high yields quickly."---------
That is speculation----speculation is not investment. Investment means a type of savings and growth. Buying a few sheep hoping to turn around and sell them at a profit in a couple of weeks or months is speculation. Buying a few sheep and putting them out to graze and produce more sheep each spring to build a herd that will produce enough lambs to support you and your family is investing.
-------"BUT, there is a point when R&D is simply neglected. Glad to see that might not be the case now."---------
There's nothing wrong with research and development-----any business needs to constantly be looking for new and better ways of doing things. However---because there might be a new or better way of doing things around the corner, doesn't mean nothing should be done now. You won't catch any fish if you don't get the boat in the water. Get out there and get your line in the water---THEN worry about getting a bigger boat.
------" Also, people that are only looking at the dollar signs for energy are forgetting the hidden costs--which are much more costly I'm sure."--------
That is true. That is what makes renewable energy sources, sun, wind, wave and tidal, geothermal, biofuels; a good investment----people are begining to realize all the hidden costs, and problems with using fossil fuels. Investing in renewable energy sources means doing somethng good for yourself, and doing something good for the rest of the world at the same time. You can be proud of what you are doing.

I would like to see the return of the investments. Fossil Fuels are cheap and the people who invested most likely got a back more from their investment.

BTW---if you hadn't noticed---the price of gasoline is going back up again, the time to invest in biofuels is now. When the price of petroleum gets high as it has been in the recent past again, everyone and his brother is going to be wanting in on biofuel investments----including the big Daddy Warbucks.
Investors who make the most profits are the ones who get out in front of the herd.

Even better news is that most green technology is taking place with small dedicated companies that specialize in green technology. Big heavily funded companies are looking for sure things and avoiding any risk. This means most green investments fall into the penny stock market. They don't require large minimum investments to get on board. Small investors can get on board easily.
Check it out. Biofuels, ethanol and biodiesel are very promising right now. Biofuels are clean, can be used used with existing petroleum technology(ethanol can be mixed with gasoline and used by any conventional gasoline engine up to E30(30% ethanol) or E85(85% ethanol) can be used in any combination with gasoline with only minor modification in flex fuel vehicles that are in production now and have been for some time, there are about 8 million flex fuel vehicles on the road in the US right now, and more coming everyday. Biodiesel can be used in any conventional diesel engine with no modifications---and biodiesel can be mixed in any proportion with petroleum from B2(2%) to B100(100% bio).
Biofuels use all the same supply, storage and distribution infrastructure as petroleum. Biofuels are in use right now to reduce pollution. Biofuels are much safer to handle, and much less damaging in case of spills. Biofuels are can be produced from any plant source whatever---cellulose in the case of ethanol, and algae in the case of biodiesel.
Some companies to check out, Range Fuels(just finishing construction of a plant in Soperton GA to eventually produce 100 million gal/yr ethanol from wood waste), Chemrec(converts wood pulp mills to co-produce cellulosic ethanol from "black liquor" waste, PetroSun(producing biodiesel from saltwater algae in Rio Hondo TX) and Valcent(research into algae culture systems).
Since they are penny stocks, they are risky---but that means potential profits are high as well. If you like a gamble, your odds of coming up with a winner are much better than buying lottery tickets.

I wouldn't say we've been lazy so much as we have been apathetic. During the 70's oil embargo we had the perfect chance to begin investing in green/alternate energy sources. What did we do? We started to by SUVs and Hummers instead. /facepalm
