YAKIMA — The Yakima City Council is cracking down on what an ordinance delicately refers to as "cleavage of the buttocks."
Responding to a proliferation of coffee stands with baristas wearing see-through clothing, thongs and other scanty apparel, the council this week approved minor changes to the city's indecent exposure law.
The Yakima Herald-Republic reports that Mayor Dave Elder had wanted the changes under the city's adult business ordinance. But city legal staff warned that trying to place coffee stands under that law could lead to legal challenges.
The change approved by the council means that anyone in public wearing see-through apparel, a thong or a G-string — regardless of whether they are working at a coffee stand — could be prosecuted for a misdemeanor violation.

According to the Yakima Herold http://www.yakima-herald.com/stories/2009/06/03/06-04-09-exposed-coffee, "A violation is a misdemeanor, subject to 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine. If a person exposes themselves to a child under 14 years old, the violation becomes a gross misdemeanor, which is punishable by up to a year in jail and a $5,000 fine."
So next time you're in Yakima make sure your "buttocks cleavage" is properly hidden. I love that these people are going to vote on my Domestic Partnership Rights. America is wonderful isn't it? It should be no surprise that the Mayer behind the "Thongs are wrong" crusade is also a Pastor. *sigh*

........................Of course, the new adult business rules don't apply to already established businesses, which were grandfathered in. We'd have to assume that if a similar ordinance were drafted to cover up those semi-covered baristas, the existing shops would be left alone. The sole purpose would be to prevent a "red light" district springing up, with a plethora of such enterprises. (Although, to be a devil's advocate, isn't it easier to avoid such businesses if they are all in a red light district?)
