‘Nice People Take Drugs’ is not something you would expect to see on the side of a London bus, but if you keep a look out you could see the controversial line on the next passing double-decker.

Drugs charity Release is running a campaign this week with the aim of creating a discussion over drugs and trying to create a realistic view on them within Government.

It's not the first time bus ads have started a debate. An athiest message earlier this year stated 'There probably isn't a God so stop worrying and enjoy your life'. This was followed by a Christian political group who advertised 'There definitely is a God'.

Typical isn't it, bus ads throughout history cause no controversy at all then suddenly three come along at once

    • Release specialises in drugs and drugs law and has over 40 years experience defending the rights of drug users. They have lawyers, policy advocates and drugs experts working full time to move our society towards a more sensible approach to managing drugs, but THEY NEED YOUR HELP.

It is time that we demanded that politicians and the media have a realistic and honest discussion about drugs. It's time to shift the debate - we need laws that are fair, information that is accurate and a debate that is meaningful.

Release are confident that they can bring about more effective and safer drug laws, but to do that they need your help. Please support this campaign and donate what you can today.

      Please DONATE today

To be kept informed about the Nice People Take Drugs campaign, and to find out what action you can take to support it, please email Release at: nicepeople@release.org.uk

    • I gather that the intent of this message is to get people to consider the fact that not everybody who takes drugs is evil. SOME people who take drugs are nice. But the message also reminds me that you can't control the manner in which people will interpret your message. That is the case even if the message seems to be crystal clear, but it is even MORE the case when the message contains a certain amount of ambiguity.

I can just picture certain people I have met in my life who would read this and immediately think that the message meant that ALL people who take drugs are nice...and would dismiss and reject the message with their mouths set and a firm shake of the head. I can even think of people who would read it as saying that one HAS to take drugs in order to be nice. They would wander around a bit confused for the remainder of the day...

    • So many people in the world today feel that evil deeds are done by evil people. Atheists are evil, drug addicts are evil, drug dealers are evil. This isn't true. Drugs are evil because government has crusaded since the 1930's (and particularly since the 1960's) to make everyone feel drugs are evil.

People certainly don't deserve 10-20 years in prison for using or having a drug. If anything, they need treatment for substance abuse and cognitive therapy.

    • This is amazing because it is so general of a statement. Nice people take drugs! Happy people take drugs! Colombians take drugs! The world is taking drugs! When will citizens of the world realize we're addicted to carbon, drugs, and goat cheese.
