A new ad from Conservatives for Patients' Rights says that a public health insurance plan now being proposed in Congress "could crush all your other choices, driving them out of existence, resulting in 119 million off their current insurance coverage."
That's misleading. The 119 million figure comes from an analysis of a plan that would mirror Medicare and be open to every individual and business that wanted it. But that's not the type of public plan President Obama has proposed. Nor is such a plan gaining acceptance on Capitol Hill.
The author of the study says that while some have backed the Medicare-like proposal, using the 119 million number "overstates the impact of what now is being considered."
The ad also falsely cites the New York Times as the source of a statement that what's being proposed would leave no consumer choices and "government in control of your health care." The Times didn't say that at all. The newspaper was just quoting claims made by insurance companies and members of Congress.

It's news like this that makes me wonder if the people will ever own their own government in America.

The REAL reason:
Many in Congress Hold Stakes in Health Industry
By JACKIE CALMES
Published: June 13, 2009WASHINGTON — As President Obama and Congress intensify the push to overhaul health care in the coming week, the political and economic force of that industry is well represented in the financial holdings of many lawmakers and others with a say on the legislation, according to new disclosure forms.
The personal financial reports, due late last week from members of Congress, show that many lawmakers hold investments in insurance, pharmaceutical and prescription-benefit companies and in hospital interests, all of which would be affected by the administration’s overhaul of health care.

I've been posting this on several health care threads, but this needs to get to the public.
It is not the continuing bailouts given to wall street that is bankrupting our country but government issued health care. This seems to be the line that is being sold to our people. And guess what. You are buying it.
I know there are a lot of good natured people who support Obama and his policies, but before you go out and attack the people opposing his policies, first, identify what you are supporting. Obama says we spend too much on health care but what he fails to say is that over 30% of the cost are from the overhead administrative cost of HMOs as apposed to the 2% cost derived from medical, medicare and medicaid. The solution to this would be to kill the HMO system and go back to Hillburton system, which was replaced by the HMOs, under that crook Nixon. If you really care about the health care of our nation, you should join the fight for the reenactment of Hillburton and fight against this policy which is being proposed to Obama by the likes of Peter Ortzag and Ezekiel Emmanuel. In the following video link Ezekiel Emmanuel is confronted at a conference about his past policies and flees the scene in a stricken panic. White house officials have asked CNN to not air this conference. Fortunately we had cameras rolling and we have the footage.

I agree with Bread_Basket when he says : " The real enemy is insurance and pharmaceutical companies who are really lobbying towards either controlling the public option ..."
As for the French....I'm Irish and have always loved the French best when I travelled. They also have the very best food and designh.......except Italy can compete on those two counts.

Really? I read that France was voted one of the rudest country of the world, next to Malaysia of course. But I have no worldly experiences, so I neither confirm nor deny it.

Nothing is better than authentic Italian food.....but, yes, the French also know how to cook.
The other comment about French rudeness.......it's a cultural thing. In France you must salute the owner on entering a shop.....if you don't they will consider you rude and be arrogant. It's cultural......if you breeze in all smiles.....just try it and the French will love you.

Oh come on, lets not throw the baby with the bath water or the bath water with the baby. The real enemy is insurance and pharmaceutical companies who are really lobbying towards either controlling the public option and making it just a water mark proposal where the public option will, on paper exist, or agree to cardinal changes at a later date and eventually just push the date again and again. Not conservatives. Unless you're talking about the extremism on television...but seriously...moderate conservatives aren't afraid of mixed social-democracy(it works in Europe)...we just kind of like french jokes a lot.(you know, french communism, I bet everyone's history teacher made jokes like that)

Well put. Unfortunately, like liberals, conservatives all too often get painted with the same ultra-idealistic brush.

The real problem is that either moderate conservatives are few and far between or that they are just not loud enough. Either way it seems to me like most conservatives are happy with the party of NO.

Bread_Basket:
extreme viewpoints exist on both sides of the spectrum and are equally as loud and obnoxious, this is not just a characteristic of conservative thinkers.
and to the initial comment - I like the Europe reference, we would be wise to take a few hints from them every once in a while.

Conservatives for Patients' Rights? When did we start referring to insurance companies as patients? Well....whatever. I guess when the facts do not actually back up their claims they just make something up and hope nobody notices. Typical GOP.
