Obama's first pardon

(NECN: Green Bay, Wisc.) - President Barack Obama handed out his first pardon on Thursday -- to a 10-year-old Wisconsin girl.

The president offered to write the fourth grader a note for missing the last day of school to attend his town hall-style meeting.

"I'll start writing it now. What's her name," Mr. Obama asked the girl's father. "I'm serious, what's your daughter's name."

When the father told the president that his daughter's name was Kennedy, Mr. Obama seemed impressed.

"That's a cool name," he said. "Alright, I'm going to write to Kennedy's teacher."

Of course, President Obama followed through on his promise, ripping off a piece of paper from his notes. He wrote "To Kennedy's teacher -- Please excuse Kennedy's absence... She's with me," and signed it "Barack Obama."
