Conservatives launch efforts to fire Letterman

Image
WakeUpPeople
**Update: In spite of Letterman's apology, conservatives have launched a Web site calling for his job. The site, FireDavidLetterman.com, appears to mimic the layout of The Drudge Report. The group responsible is planning to protest outside New York's Ed Sullivan Theater on Tuesday afternoon.

A Palin spokesperson added: "The Palins have no intention of providing a ratings boost for David Letterman by appearing on his show. Plus, it would be wise to keep Willow away from David Letterman."

    • LOL at that site. Letterman is not getting fired over this.

He was referring to Palin's 18-year-old daughter in his joke. Despite the 14-year-old daughter being in NYC at the time the joke was told, he didn't realize this, which is why Palin understandably stepped up to defend her daughter. Letterman realized his mistake, and acknowledged it in the apology on his show recently. This is where the issue should've ended.

    • I have a solution, put Sarah on a show that we can ignore and idiots can worship and let the rest of us enjoy DAVE and those that just don't get it can watch the Sarah channel and abstain from watching Dave.

    • These bastards are out to create their own world. Stay put Dave, at least you make people feel good while those scumbag conservatives create wars and send your audience to the fareast to get their heads blown off. We reallly need to arrest indict and imprison the conservatives and after that is finished we will do the same to the liberals, Democrats and remaining Republicans. Where is the ALCU when you need them??

    • I once believed that America has a freedom of speech amendment, but apparently it's only free if you make conservatives, liberals, and moderates all happy at the same time. I'm glad I learned my lesson.

    • Nope. What's gravy for the goose (Imus) is gravy for the gander (Letterman). What Imus said was just a bad joke in poor taste, but the left went bonkers and he lost his job. Poor Letterman. He tells a bad joke in poor taste and it's "just a joke". It's high time the left found out that sometimes their rules even apply to them and not just the conservative side.

I don't want to see Letterman fired, but conservatives have the right, and the power,to threaten a boycott against sponsors just as the left does.Remember, conservatives are roughly half the population.

    • The really hilarious thing about all this is that Letterman used to be a moderate conservative. I have no idea where he stands today amongst the dung heap that is now the right wing. This Palin joke and right wing nutty response is one huge, laughable metaphor for the implosion of the right wing.

      I am LMAO.

    • Ok... so i just checked out the site... heres the sample letter they are trying to get people to send around... notice the support the raping of young girls.. hahahah

"As an advertiser on the David Letterman show, you endorse his point of view, I am appalled that your company supports the rape of young girls.

On June 8th 2009 Mr. Letterman "joked" that a female Governor of the United States is "slutty" and worse still, "joked" about her 14 year-old daughter and statutory rape by an adult baseball player. He continued his slander of this young girl during his June 9th show, likening her to a prostitute. I refuse to buy products from a company who supports such a vulgar, reprehensible attitude toward women and girls."

      Shame on you.

    • What a tempest in a teapot. However, the Palin family -- while rejecting the offer to appear on Letterman's show -- appears to have accepted the apology. It appears that the conservatives who want Dave's head on a platter are rogues who are grasping at anything to remain relevant. The lesson for all of us is that we must do more than react to headlines.

      eldamon...

You're comparing apples to oranges. They were both bad jokes, or they were both deragatory comments. Which is it? You're taking each one in the context of your choice based...which is a typical liberal way of thinking.

I'm not offended by either one. If I think both situations were largley blown out of proportion...I'm just curious as to why there's a double standard.

The difference is there is no history of depraved oppression or disrespect towards the Palin's as a people. If there was a pattern of assaults or if one of Palin's children had actually been molested the "joke" turns much uglier.

    • What a waste of energy. "I'm going to be home taking care of my family." ---Palin Finally she sees the importance in taking care of her family. What a hypocrit. She needs to go back to Alaska and do her job beit being the governor or supporting her family. I'm sick of this woman and her soccer mom, gun toting BS. She's either so country bumpkin that it makes me sick or she's so hypocritical about her values that I can't believe a word that comes out of her mouth. Leave Letterman alone. She tried to hid her daughters pregnancy while preaching pro-life only to pawn her newborn handicapped son onto her pregnant daughter and the rest of her children. She should be beratting herself for putting her family last. I'm not a conservative or a liberal. I just can't stand it when people are so hypocritical and then make issues about jokes that were left for the taking because of her poor parenting skills.

I consider myself a feminist, so I'll respond.

but... I'm not going to repost the EXACT same thing I've said on every OTHER post about this topic. It's tiring to repeat myself when I say that his sexist joke is not ok 3 times in a row.

Seriously, if you look, you will find. Try that before you accuse us of not caring.

    • I think what you all are failing to see here is that this particular movement is not being led by the Conservatives. It has been led primarily by PUMA's and related groups who still harbor resentment about the treatment of Hillary Clinton during the Primaries. They frequently see that any woman who chooses a political life is being targeted and slandered when possible by the MSM.

In fact, many leaders are lamenting that Conservatives have not been active enough. The PUMA led organizations want the advertising boycott to continue until Letterman is fired; what they consider to be an empty, no-hearted apology is not enough. They are using Sharpton's attack on Imus as the model here.

    • GOP members pretend to live on religious and moral high ground but the whole world knows just how hypocritical that can be. Normally it is someone like Rush making a racial or religious comment and saying that liberals need to get over it. I guess it is their turn to "get over" what was obviously a misunderstanding and a bad joke.

    • This is so competely blown out of proportion. I think it's the opposite of what the conservatives are trying to say, I believe that S. Palin is trying to boost herself in the eyes of her constituents. It may have been a tasteless joke but it was a joke. I know myself when I heard the joke I immediately thought of Bristol. Come on it's funny. This reminds me of the episode of South Park when the whole town was over taken by a smug cloud. Get your heads outta your arses people and get a sense of humor.

Conservative are a minority vs non-conservatives, meaning they are less than half of the population. Notice that I explicitly stated that they are a minority of the population, not that they are a minority compared to other groups... but that is beside the point. I said "conservatives *like this*", meaning reactionary, unthinking conservatives. So let me return the compliment. Nice try.
