State GOP staffer sends racist image of Obama

Over the weekend, a GOP official in South Carolina posted a comment to Facebook comparing Michelle Obama to an escaped gorilla. Now, in a second instance of Republicans playing the race card against the Obamas, Wonkette notes that a racist e-mail was sent out by a legislative staffer for Tennessee GOP state senator Diane Black. The staffer, Sherri Goforth, e-mailed this composite picture of the country’s 44 presidents, which represents President Obama with only a set of eyes.

When asked if she understood the controversial nature of the photo, Goforth would only say she felt very bad about accidentally sending it to the wrong list. When given a second chance to address the controversial nature of the email, she again repeated that she only felt bad about sending it to the wrong list of people.

    • Another government worker in Tennessee got in trouble for using state emails to send out racist LOLs. However this intern was urged to resign. Turns out though he was working for a Democrat, the intern was a Republican.

    • The assistant behaved irresponsibly. She should not be using office equiptment to send her idea of jokes to anyone. Poor judgement.
Should she be fired? maybe. Depends on office policy. I would not want her working for me.

    • Thomas Sowell (Black scholar) said that the whole Jim Crow era in the south was perpetuated by the democrats. Look at the political figures that tried to obstruct the civil rights movement. Democrats, all. Byrd was a member of the Klan. Bull Connor was a loyal democrat. Those southern governors? democrats. Political cartoonists of today, when drawing Clarence Thomas, Condaleeza Rice, Mike Steele, and other conservative Blacks, always fall back on racist stereotypes. So what's your point? "Thank God we don't have any racists in our ranks!" Yes, you do- a lot of them. MLK was a republican. Saying Republicans are all racists (what is implied here) is wishful thinking.

unclecharlie you need to bone up on your history - where did those democrats go when JFK became President and he and LBJ supported civil rights? They became Repulbicans. Many of them split even before that as Dixiecrats.

The reasons for those Democrats leaving the party and joining the republicans will always be a stain on the republican party because they actively sought to curry favor with racist mentality.

LBJ was willing to sacrifice this vote bloc to support Civil Rights because he felt it was the moral thing to do and he was right. The Republicans shouldn't have for the sake of political support try to woo those types. Those racists should have been allowed to either change their minds or form some crazy third party that no sane person would give much attention to.

    • In a certain light, it is ironically funny. I mean, I could see Obama using that as a joke about extreme conservatives thought processes (or do they even have those?).

But in the context used by that genius over there... yeahNO.
