Organisers of the first ever Tour de France cycle race for criminals, heaved a huge sigh of relief this weekend after ALL 196 inmates taking part in the gruelling challenge crossed the finish line in Paris present and correct.Unlike the free mans' bike race, no breakaway sprints were allowed to take place during the two-week event and instead the criminals had to cycle in a pack accompanied by 124 prison guards and a bunch of fitness instructors.
The French justice minister was in the capital to watch the inmates finish, and tick their names off the register no doubt.
Does this prove the penal Tour de France is a brilliant rehabilitative exercise? Or should the French justice department be thanking their lucky stars they weren't all made to look like idiots?
