Arboretum Under the Freeway

This is about the Washington Park Arboretum, which has the SR 520 Bridge crossing through it. The bridge, after 40 years, is inadequate for the number of cars that go across it each day. So let's build a new, bigger bridge, right? Maybe. Let's think about it first.

I really! like this video. It could definitely be on TV with a little explanation of NEPA and SEPA, maybe pictures of the area before and/or after bridge construction. Great work and inspirational, and the ending is awesome.

Thank you for your wonderful comment. I appreciate it. NEPA and SEPA are a little daunting ... It's like, if you say to people that the environment will be ruined, it's different than saying there's a DS finding under NEPA/SEPA.

So why can't they build the new bridge by deflectlng the extra traffic to that new bridge away from the site?

This is in the City of Seattle. There's stuff (houses, buildings, roads, the University of Washington) in almost any direction. Plus, I believe under the state shoreline regulations that it is much easier to rebuild something that is already there rather than start something new. It's a tough nut to crack.
