^-^;

I'm usually not doing this, but this is very prior to not only Current, but its future, you may have already known a post like this created Delia, and I am have did the same, here is the link to the same petition,

I've gathered a majority of the different users' opinions and summarized some of them up and some I quoted...
@ All of Current Staff, these are what some of users had to say about wanting to bring back Current tv, I've taken the notice that you, the staff hasn't even asked the users of what they feel about the feature being gone, its as if you pretended nothing had happend until we had to ask you..

"Free the Weed & Bring Back Vicky!

What I miss is getting that email saying "Your a homepage hero!" or even better "Your story on Current Tonight"

Those were the good old days..."
~Unimartix0

~Without Current News, Current will lag, without its main feature...and will be useless

"Particularly if the robot is giving news Current members have decided was news."
~Neocongo

"Why are you guys surprised?, every platform that gets it's boost from it's users quickly dumps them and goes for the money... in the form of sponsored programming and focusing on more lucrative subjects and topics of discussion. We are no longer needed!"
~Mafioso

"I'm 100% with you. I remember when voting for the content of an article meant something. I remember when Current was actually current. They shoudl change the name to Weekly-Filtered-Producer Approved TV.

I don't have all day to wait to see my name in lights, dammit! I want to have my cyber-ego stroked every hour on the hour!!! Vicki RULES!!

Without OUR participation and inclusion, Current is just Mtv with a sprinkling of CNN on top; the bastard child of YouTube."
~Bansheewail

~Its pretty questioning of how Current News will work with this format, so I'm suggesting to bring back the old format as well~!

~Current News is the BEST part about Current itself..

'I KNOW! I want Vicky BACK. That is one of the only reasons i actually watched and participated in Current"
~NotCaleb

"Vicky is the one who inspired me to join current.com. i only got to see current when I visited my brother in DC, and once I saw that cool robot give user chosen news every hour inbetween awesome shows, i KNEW i wanted to be a contributer, a part of the current community"
~Hollowman218

And the main post :

We want the Hourly Current News Program with our lovely Robot Voice, Vicky, BACK on TV.

This is clear in every single post regarding the Current Community. It always gets brought up - Why no more hourly news? Why don't we see the users on TV as much anymore? It was awesome, Vicky was awesome, and we want them back - is Current Media for the people or will you dismiss the voice of your demographic?

I'm trying to get 1,000 signatures. I have no guarantee that Current will listen and deviate from whatever plans they may have, but you never know if you don't try!

    • the current i watch today is not the current i watched yesterday, and for that reason i watch it less. i know that things must change, and i do like how legit infomania is getting and other such shows, but i do miss vicky, i miss the original real user submitted tv, because its hardly that anymore. lately they've been recycling oooold pods, while putting in the stations own original programming, but the peoples voice is heard far less now, even on the website we're pushed below the episode links. its a saad thing

    • I'll add that I have noticed what I believe to be a degradation of Current, a change in policy regarding articles posted by members.

I've personally posted a number of articles which never showed up in any category and received very few visits. At the same time, articles sit for days on the main page.

If Current is moving away from the voice of the people, we should move away from Current and start and support a new venture which gives unfettered voice to us.

      What say you Current?

I don't think he mentioned any pigeons, so it didn't seem like a coo was involved.

At best the suggestion of a Coupe Deville might be needed to "move away from Current" but it would probably have to make a lot of trips to be able fit everybody in.

    • On the one hand you have cliques like the one adamsmithfreedom belongs to that fight for causes whether or not it is news and on the other you have the pressure of entertaining stories that are popular whether or not they are news.

How about adhering more to the time tested principles of journalism that have been worked out to settle the dispute?

The kinds of things they teach like how to write a good headline, putting in a good lede, the who, what, when, where, why, how and getting the facts straight in the news by verifying them from multiple sources

      http://www.newscloud.com/read/Principles_of_Journalism_Citizen_and_Otherwise?ski...

Unfortunately no one seems to think that Accuracy, Thoroughness, Fairness, Transparency or Independence is important anymore.

I'm all for more member participation in the Current TV network, but if people want the right to have their views expressed more broadly then they also have to take the responsibility to improve the quality of that expression in order for it to qualify as news.

when groups launches, i'm sure a "Journalistic Integrity" group would go over really well. in fact, you might want to head over to our News Channel and befriend our online producer, Andrew Fitzgerald. he might be interested in this concept and could refer to some of the standards you listed to help our community learn how to better produce a story for the web (via headline, titling, and addressing the big "w" questions of investigative journalism).

      just a suggestion.

Good idea, if people will actually use it. I've studied a lot of the other tutorials like the ones for VCAM's but how many others have?

That's what they have editors for to assure quality control so lets hope that Andrew Fitzgerald can do the job of instructing the members in "Journalistic Integrity 101" by giving them feedback on where they fail to meet the standards.

    • Us liberty fighters don't understand what it means to get on the front page.....even after thousands of great articles and videos.....never NEVER even when our articles are voted to the top........will they put liberty and freedom articles as featured. Current is controlled censored by the DNC, just look at their main contributors.....some of them actually advertise it in the current.com profile! It just upsets me that slavery trumps individual rights and liberty!

    • How many times is the same post going to be reposted by different people? I think there are other more important news items that need to be seen, and is this really news? Personally, while the hourly news was OK, it still essentially covered the same thing we now see on the homepage carousel which basically caters to the same members. All we ever see are the same few people (the petition writer of this is one of them) with the exception of a couple up on the homepage carousel or featured elsewhere regardless of what they post here. It still wasn't fair the other way either. It doesn't matter what format is used here. There will still be cliques who will vote up each other whether what they vote up is news or not, and some staff members who will place their favorites over the others.

"it still essentially covered the same thing we now see on the homepage carousel which basically caters to the same members. All we ever see are the same few people (the petition writer of this is one of them)" If this is true, you realize that you are part of those people too, right? I see your name featured all over Current, so I can't see how you can complain about a system without acknowledging that you are favored as well!

"There will still be cliques who will vote up each other whether what they vote up is news or not" Not everything on Current is "News" any more- but besides that point, I don't vote up stories I don't think are interesting whether you believe that or not.

"and some staff members who will place their favorites over the others."

Right, because you so know about the inner workings of Current! And lets see a list of those so called favorites. I'd think you'd be on it. Seeing as how you have a channel, recorded questions for current and had an interview for them. You should give the staff members of Current more credit Jan, they obviously do their best to make fair and balanced decisions.

In addition, nice job tagging this as yawn. Quite immature.

    • NumLock,

Is it just me or is there something kind of creepy about the term "twitterbot?"

There are enough flesh-and-blood intelligences twittering at me all day as it is...so now I need an ARTIFICIAL intelligence doing so?

    • At least it is an update with some reassurances that the problem is being addressed.

"Teaching Vicky how to speak took a lot of human hand holding. We’ll be pulling more stories at a time, and we’ll be attempting to stick to a much faster-paced turnaround. This means, more community submissions on TV."

It would be cool to have a tribute to her efforts though and maybe you could do more with her on Facebook to help her live on and attract more members.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiWTukW6wco

I've had experiences with trying to get text to speech synthesizers to work for voice overs in my animation so I know how hard it is to get them to sound intelligible and speak clearly enough to be understood. Vicky was cute and all but that wasn't the crux of the issue.

"It’s certainly taken longer than we’ve hoped, but bringing back community-submitted stories to TV is definitely on our (long) list of things to do — we’ve got some serious work to do to get things running smoothly."

That is what we have been waiting for all these months

"We have a PhD on staff named DrGary who will be working on a vastly improved classifier and channel-based scoring system, but this is pretty involved work.”

I guess there is no rushing PhDs while they are attempting to pile it higher and deeper since as they say "Trouble rather the tiger in his lair than the sage amongst his books for to you kingdoms and their armies are mighty and enduring, but to him they are but toys of the moment to be overturned by the flicking of a finger." and he'll get the work done when he is ready, not when the members want it on their schedule.

"Nothing has been finalized, but we’ll let you know as things develop"

I hope so since it is what makes Current what it is to have member participation

    • Eh, i still would like to know what everyone of the community thinks about it, so just keep voting it up, anyway..!

Mario, what purposely lead you and the Curent staff to change Current from the very beginning? Several months, that is...

What about the comments as well, being featured upon Tv?

we could not sustain the system based on the way it was built, and we wanted to expand it to include more headlines more often. this meant stopping "Current News" while we went through a re-architecture, and now we're finally building out the stuff that will allow community submitted stories to hit the airwaves once again.

    • If you are hellbent on not bringing Vicky back there should be at least some kind of acknowledgment or Current celebration for her and how much we loved her!

Great! This way the community will at least feel like you are addressing the issue and not leaving them in the dark. Since I started this mess, let me know if I can help, like do a call out for webcams about Vicky or something like that!

first, it won't be "Current News." stories will be picked hourly from news, gaming, music, tech, movies, green, comedy and art & style. the exact number and rotation is not yet determined.

second, it's being worked on. it's not ready yet, and we don't have a date...but when it's ready to go, you guys will be the first to know.
