Sarah Palin to resign as Alaska Governor

Palin, the former Republican vice presidential candidate in 2008, hastily called a news conference at her home in suburban Wasilla, giving such short notice that only a few reporters actually made it to the announcement.
She is handing the reins over to Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell, who will be sworn in at the governor's picnic in Fairbanks on July 26. Parnell and most of Palin's cabinet and Palin's family were at the announcement.
Palin was vague about why exactly she is stepping down rather than finish out her first term, which ends in 2010.
There was no immediate word as to why she will step down before the end of her first term. Some have speculated in the past that Palin may be interested in a run for president in 2012, but she did not mention running for another office at her press conference. Sources told NBC's Andrea Mitchell that it appears Palin is out of politics for good.
UPDATE: video of Sarah Palin saying why she resigned.

Why? Did she get offered a talk show? Kinda like Tyra meets Huckabee with a dash of Hasselbeck from the View?
*scratches head*
I really hope she doesn't try another presidential run. For one I don't think she would win and for two, the woman is just a troll. I thought throughout the whole campaign she was just a negative prescence.

Well, let's just see how Obama handles the country up until that time. If, he keeps his current trends of slashing services such as medicare and then moves on to "reform" Social Security, Palin may have a real good chance. If not her, then someone else. The policy of money being more important than people, isn't overlooked for very long.

ish05,
obama has not cut medicare one bit. that was legislation left over from the bush admin.
in fact, the bush administration penned a 10% reduction in medicare payments to doctors in july 1, 2009. additionally, medicare payment rates to nursing homes would be frozen in 2009, and payments to home health clinics would be frozen at current amounts through 2013.
please don't blame obama for bush's fuckups.

With all the trouble she has had with running around with family drug dealers and not being able to take care of her kids as touted by the Republican family value crowd, It's high time she got out of the public eye. Way too many skeletons in her family closet.

moral character? HA! are those the same morals she taught her daughter too??? those same morals she's consulting to quit her job in light of an embezzlement probe? i'm quite certain no probes have even been waged against president or former sentaor obama.
knowledge? bigger HA! she said the VP's job is "in charge of the senate." um, no ... she also claimed that one can see russia from land in alaska ... yes, it's true, but explain to me how that gives her foreign policy experience? at least obama has met some foreign heads-of-state prior to his election.
with all that said, i'm very curious specifically what morals you think president obama lacks. what about knowledge? do you really think palin could work with ahmadinejad or north korea?

She doesn't even stay in Alaska that much anymore. There's more to the reason why she's quitting. In all serious, she 's constantly a hypocrite in her own values and beliefs. When you think about it, she was giving the Republican Party more headaches than relief. Anyone disagree

I can't speak for FallenMorgan, but I would be laughing out loud if the Republican party, with all it's viable choices out there right now, actually chose HER to be their candidate in 2012, after she made such an uneducated buffoon of herself in the last election. I like to think that most Republicans are at LEAST smart enough to see Palin's stupidity. I would be astonished if she were actually nominated for any political office ever again.

Who cares if she is going to run in 2012? Don't let them start the campaign in 2009. The last campaign was too long and it was only two years. Three and a half years is ridiculous.
If Sarah Palin is resigning with plans to run in 2012, she should feel shame! Leaving her current elected position, in hopes of being elected to a higher position shows poor character.
The amount of money spent on a two year campaign is beyond the pale. American corporations need to stick to business. Profit before politics would be a good place to start. I hate to see people distracted from reality so early in the current administration. We are in a terrible mess. We need solutions, not campaigns. Everyone should do the jobs they were elected to do and work together, to get us out of this mess.
