The brief report from Xinhua news agency gave no more details.
Protesters, mostly from the Uighur ethnic group, set dozens of cars on fire and attacked buses in several hours of violence in the Xinjiang province city of Urumqi on Sunday. The violence appeared to subside as the police and military presence intensified into the night, according to participants and witnesses.

140 is Yahoo's count, and the death toll is expected to rise. Women and children included. Wow, the Chinese don't fuck around. I'm not sure Islam wants a piece of that gigantic ant colony, they are fire ants, without much concern for scouts. God save the kids:(

I guess the term "Wild West" isn't unique to only America.
I would hate to be there when the Chinese riot police showed up. After seeing how they handled (and are handling) the Tibet issue I'm sure there are a lot less Uighurs today than there were yesterday.

It kind of does. Chinese riot police don't mess around, and they don't go out to play alone. Phrases like 129 dead imply there may not even be very many rioters left. I wonder what it was all about. We may never find out.
