Saudis give nod to Israeli raid on Iran

Uzi Mahnaimi in Tel Aviv and Sarah Baxter

The head of Mossad, Israel’s overseas intelligence service, has assured Benjamin Netanyahu, its prime minister, that Saudi Arabia would turn a blind eye to Israeli jets flying over the kingdom during any future raid on Iran’s nuclear sites.
Earlier this year Meir Dagan, Mossad’s director since 2002, held secret talks with Saudi officials to discuss the possibility.
The Israeli press has already carried unconfirmed reports that high-ranking officials, including Ehud Olmert, the former prime minister, held meetings with Saudi colleagues. The reports were denied by Saudi officials.
“The Saudis have tacitly agreed to the Israeli air force flying through their airspace on a mission which is supposed to be in the common interests of both Israel and Saudi Arabia,” a diplomatic source said last week.
Although the countries have no formal diplomatic relations, an Israeli defence source confirmed that Mossad maintained “working relations” with the Saudis.

Obama: No green light for Israel to attack Iran
      07/07/09 10:14 AM, EDT
The United States is "absolutely not" giving Israel a green light to attack Iran, U.S. President Barack Obama told CNN Tuesday

Personally I do not trust CNN.

      Obama? Time will tell.

    • They know it's easier for them to sit back and let the Israelis' do their job, getting rid of a threat to them and other middle eastern countries. Ahmadinejad should have kept his mouth shut, what a media pimp.

    • The Arab states will do whatever the USA tells them.......if they don't they'll be next on the famous "axis of evil" list.....while USA is the "hub" of evil.

Puppet Governments will do as they are told.........US Military might, and torture equipment, keeps them in power after all.

Occasionally their subjects are discontent, but jails, torture, and death, silences them. It happens from Egypt, Saudi and all the Gulf countries. It happened in Iran in the days of the late Shah too.

Saudi Arabia is democratic America's non democratic friend.

    • So we have strategically taken either side of Iran, while sanctioning our pets to attack it. (so we don't look like we are taking It too) If you look at the map, it is a strategic land grab installing puppet governments under false pretenses, so.... Are we keeping the oil for ourselves and the Saudis, and away from our enemies or what?

    • The Saudi government may turn a blind eye to Israel using their air space. The nation’s citizens will not receive the news very well though. Remember that a few pissed off Saudi’s blew up the world trade center primarily because of the US military presence in a Muslim holy land. There would be immediate retaliation from Saudi citizens if their government assisted the Israeli war machine in any way.

Plus, can anyone take anything Jon Bolton says seriously?

    • Arabs, Persians, who cares? They are all Muslims, and so they all aim to destroy freedom and murder and torture anyone they get their greasy hands on. Israel should conquer the middle east, but they won't because they are too interested in being just. Israel needs a king to lead them to do God's work, and the first thing would be to destroy the evil occupied land known to the occupying Arab power as Saudi Arabia. This is Hebrew and Christian land, and the Arabs need to be eliminated from it. From there, the Arab and Muslim occupied lands of Iran and Iraq need to be reclaimed.

    • Most of the 9-11 attackers were from Saudi Arabia.

It was wrong to attack Afghanistan and Iraq in the name of defense.

It is wrong to attack Iran for the same reasons...

innocent people are killed in the name of corporate profit.

Israel is a 50 year experiment in nation building. If it is incapable of promoting peace than it should question it's purpose.

The same is true for the U.S.A. ~ who launched a military offensive that coincided with the 4th of July weekend.

    • Its the Saudi Arabians that need the revolution not Iran. Some Jews in Israel have a plan in place for a "Greater Israel" that spans from the Nile to Iran. So they have to kill or enslave the people that live there now.

    • disagree,

Saudi Arabia is doing this because it's in their own interests. Religiously they're wahabists (like mega fundamentalists) and they despise the shiites (and fear them).

more pratically is oil. iran could seek to displace Saudi's influence in the global oil market (especially if they get nuclear power and can sell more oil abroad).

      that's the reason for this.

    • Ummm....I suggest everyone take about five minutes and learn that not all Muslims are the same and they are distinct differences between Arabs and Persians. Iran is Shiite dominated while the rest of the Middle East is Sunni dominated. Also there is still lingering distrust between Persians and Arabs dating back centuries. Add in one regional power potentially gaining nuclear arms, a Shiite power that has fought a brutal war with a Sunni neighbor (Iran/Iraq War, some of the largest land battles post WWII), we are talking about complex political, social, religious issues...its a bit more complex than the "nuance" view that Jews are behind it all. You all know that the "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion" was a forgery right?

If you get a chance read, "The Bin Ladens", I just read it but gave my copy to a Muslim friend. It details the Bin Laden family, but in doing so provides a lot of details on the Saud Royal Family, brigands with no self control, by and large.

They[Saudi Arabia] has always been for sale to the highest bidder so as long as USA protects the fat sheiks and their Harems from their own people.

    • Actually, it's America owns Saudi Arabia....they have installed their own puppet government there....the AL SAUD "royal family".. They are hated by the people because they spend the country's revenue on palaces, multiple wives, whores, casinos, and booze...........while cutting off hands and heads as punishment for mere people.

However the AIPAC lobby is now so strong that Israel can make America do its bidding....hence the Saudis have been told what to do, and they will dance to the pipers tune.

    • attack iranian soil has 2 concequences
1- it will bring iranian people right behind ayatollah khameneyee which every iranian hate ,but they rally around him.
2-iran makes a fire ball of middle eastern country , and attack isreal and usa in iraq , lobnan , palestine , with hamas and hezbollah , and also they distroy hormoz , which 70 persent oil of america and europe carries from there ,
isreali's would be crazy to do such thing beacuse that would be a suicide for them , and if they use atomic bomb then you could prodect the whole world will be in it ,
but then again isreali's are stupid and they don't know what is good for them , other wise they would make peace with palestinians a long time ago.

John Bolton, the former US ambassador to the United Nations who recently visited the Gulf, said it was “entirely logical” for the Israelis to use Saudi airspace.
Bolton, who has talked to several Arab leaders, added: “None of them would say anything about it publicly but they would certainly acquiesce in an overflight if the Israelis didn’t trumpet it as a big success.”
Arab states would condemn a raid when they spoke at the UN but would be privately relieved to see the threat of an Iranian bomb removed, he said.
Referring to the Israeli attack on an alleged Syrian nuclear facility in 2007, Bolton added: “To this day, the Israelis haven’t admitted the specifics but there’s one less nuclear facility in Syria . . .”
Recent developments have underscored concerns among moderate Sunni Arab states about the stability of the repressive Shi’ite regime in Tehran and have increased fears that it may emerge as a belligerent nuclear power.
“The Saudis are very concerned about an Iranian nuclear bomb, even more than the Israelis,” said a former head of research in Israeli intelligence.
The Israeli air force has been training for a possible attack on Iran’s nuclear site at Natanz in the centre of the country and other locations for four years.
