The Surprising Effect Of Marijuana On Morphine Dependence

Image

Injections of THC, the active principle of cannabis, eliminate dependence on opiates (morphine, heroin) in rats deprived of their mothers at birth. This has been shown by a study carried out by Valérie Daugé and her team at the Laboratory for Physiopathology of Diseases of the Central Nervous System (UPMC / CNRS / INSERM) in the journal Neuropsychopharmacology. The findings could lead to therapeutic alternatives to existing substitution treatments.

    • Opiate dependence has grown, thanks to the oxy- family!! Any research that helps rehabilitate unsuspecting victims, ie. Patients who have suffered painful injuries. Alot of these patients are prescribed painkillers during recovery, then fail to realize they have withdrawl symptoms. Many times they feel depressed and think it's related to the injury, however it's probably conected to the withdrawl from the narcotic! $€@!\!

    • You know what irritates me more than vivisection? Vivisection that is experiments that could just as easily--and with more accurate results--be performed on voluntary human participants. Goddamnit.

    • what the hell does separating and traumatizing poor little creatures have to do with morphine addiction? maybe it's time we got some serial killers and rapists to be our "guinea pigs", it would give us more accurate findings too...

You and doctor Mengele. Human trials use volunteers and come after that. I wonder if your tune might change when your only child gets addicted to smack.

Betting you don't have any though. Animal rights activists rarely seem to.

There are studies that prove that correct... you do not piss in a psychologists cheerios and expect there not to be studies into why after all... It is proving hard to find on the internet, but there have been numerous studies into animal rights activists groups showing... that they either are divorced or have never been married, seldom have children, they score in the 4-5 range on the MacIE (used to judge likely hood of suicides), and tend to hoard animals... in short, their crazy as... well really crazy can be, but what do you expect from people who view blowing up or shooting scientists to save bunnies as a good and viable option... most often they use rats too... never mentioned by PETA interestingly enough... guess rats just are not cute enough to enrage people.

    • Fascinating! Rodent studies are notorious for not reliably translating well to human treatment for neurological stuff. Some monkey studies might be just the thing though. Definitely worth trying I think. if nothing else THC wont have the breathing suppressive effects that make methadone so dangerous.
