    • NOTHING HAS CHANGED....WHEN I WAS A KID THE PIGS WERE FUCKED TO US. THEY TRY TO GET OVER ON YOU FOR THEIR OWN EGO'S. THIS IS WHY PEOPLE SHOOT COPS. THE PIGS BRING IT ON THEMSELVES. THEY HAVE NO RESPECT FOR THE PEOPLE THAT PAY THEIR SALARIES. MAYBE WE SHOULD STOP PAYING TAXES AND BRING THE THE WHOLE SYSTEM TO ITS KNEES. DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH IT COSTS THEM TO HAVE A HELICOPTER? LITERALLY MILLIONS A YEAR. FOR WHAT?????THEY PISS OUR TAX MONEY AWAY ON SHIT LIKE THAT. MAYBE THE SYSTEM AS A WHOLE HAD BETTER START LIVING WITHIN THEIR MEANS. AND IF THAT MEANS TAKING LESS...THEN SO BE IT. THAT'S WHAT WE'RE BEING FORCED TO DO. WHY SHOULDN'T THEY????????????

    • you people need to generalize less. there are some idiot and asshole cops, just like in every other job in society.

although things are different here in canada - in ottawa, police used their guns only 65 times last year, and 64 of the times they were used on animals

    • I was raised in Chicago(the city, not the suburbs), lived in Bedstuy-Brooklyn, and now in Watts-L.A..

I've seen and experienced the ways the beast handles us common folk.

I know they're good cops, but I'm so inclined to say:
      FUCK THE POLICE.

    • FUCK THE POLICE! this is the kind of shit that gets cops killed. When you're a kid you're told to respect the cops because they're watching out for you. You fucking cops want respect from the people? then show some god damn respect for the people who're paying your fat donut eating asses. There are more and more people who're getting sick of their shit. One story after another of cops beating grandmas, BART officer shooting a man in the back WHILE HE'S IN HANDCUFFS, and now this? Mr. Obama you need to do something about this before the American people take care of it for you.

    • On the other hand, the 'chief' or whoever was talking has to worry about being sued. If he admits an error by one of his policeman the family is a shoe-in for their legal case. So you have to also blame our litigous country as well .. even hospitals will withhold symptoms or potential errors for the same reason. Doesn't make it right and one day one of them will screw up so bad the laws will change, just wait for it.

    • i've been beaten and slammed arount plenty by the fuzz. sometimes i deserved it usually not. one time i was sleeping in my car, i pulled off the road 'cause i was nodding. next thing i know i'm being pulled out the window, the cop had his thumbs up under my jaw and pulled me from the car, then held me up like that. the pain was overwhelming. after a 2 hour search of my car he left leaving all my things scattered and trampled. i think the crime was he thought i was a girl, i've long hair and it makes the bulls crazy.

    • the same people that are bitching about our men and women in uniform would be bitching if they got mugged downtown. get real people, 99% of the police force are honorable and do a great job for little money. Something about getting your head blown off at any traffic stop might give them an attitude, or seeing justice being blown apart by the ACLU at every turn.

    • cmdinc:

Yeah getting mugged and getting brutalized by cops are BOTH bad things and people SHOULD bitch about both. Good cops should be commended. BTW it is NOT 99%!! It's more like 1%! I am a member of the ACLU. The right wing gives the ACLU a bad rap, but all they do is protect peoples rights.

    • cmdinc:

I think the ACLU is a good group too but his number is right not yours. Bad cops are vanishingly rare. Mostly because the only people who hate bad cops worse than folks like you are other cops. It's a very proud profession with extremely high moral standards.

People don't choose to do a job where they literally get deliberately shot at, vomited on, bitten, and generally spend their career looking up the poop shoot of society for kicks. They do it because they want to do something that matters.

    • cmdinc:

@bombastinator: My uncle was a great cop. I know there are good cops. Obviously our numbers don't come from any real sources. They are opinions and both of us (me and cmdinc) exaggerated, I would say.

And you can't say who is 'right', because this is an opinion. How can we know for sure which cops have the potential to brutalize people? My opinion is that most of them are capable of doing it because in my experience they have that kind of attitude... A dominant-male, punishment-centric attitude that is just ready to explode when the cop loses his temper. I am not talking about just cops who have been prosecuted for police brutality. I am talking about my perception of their personalities... so there is no right and wrong. Only opinion.

So I admit that I am exaggerating, but in my own personal experience, most of the cops I have dealt with were a-holes. I do think that job attracts alpha-males.

They do it because they want to kick some ass. They want to beat down dissidents. Only a few of them are sincerely wanting to help people rather than having a punishment-centric view. That is my opinion, not a fact.

    • It's true. Police and military attract people who want to be able to use power over others. There should be much stricter screening on the people who we give weapons to and have represent our laws.

    • I don't care what you say, Police are fucking cowards. They run around acting as if they are soldiers fight a fucking war, the soldiers have a right to be scared anyways, they always have enemies gunning for their heads.

Most police are cowards with guns, makes me wonder why most do the job anyways if you are a scared bitch, the job of police should be given to men and women with actual balls, and not attitude problems, because they are the worst kind of people to actually work law enforcement.

Believe me, I have actually only met about 1 cop in my whole fucking life who was actually cool. The rest are cowardly, cold, emotionless assholes who won't even give back a casual "hi" when you say hi to them. They are shit, and they need to be reviewed for cowardliness because honestly cowards with guns are worse than a hardened man holding a gun with composure . Cowards shoot out of fear, brave people shoot when threatened and when they have to. Remember that, and that cop should be fired for doing that to that kid. Anyone runs from the fucking cops when being chased, they're just like street thugs, you aren't going to stay there, and let them kick your ass are you?

    • Unfortunately a position of power and authority, such as police work, attracts people who crave power and authority. Alpha-male types are not necessarily the best kind of person to serve justice. I have a fear of the police. I teach my children to watch out for police just as much as I tell them to watch out for other types of people that can put them in danger.

I was a victim of police brutality when I was an infant.

My father was almost beaten to death by police. At the hospital they said he had a 10% chance of living. Someone started to read him his last rights, which he refused. They had to remove his spleen. He pulled through against the odds.

This was on an especially hot Easter in NYC, in 1976, and there were race riots (or something like that) going on. My mother, my sister, and I (in my baby carriage) were in the park when the riots started and the police were telling everyone to leave. My dad was just outside the park talking with friends and he was concerned about us, so he started towards us. The cops told him to stop, but he didn’t, nor would any parent who’s paternal instincts to protect their children kicked in.

So this great offense against the great might, power, and authority of these pigs was a good enough reason for them to severely and savagely beat my father near death, trampling my sister down, and knocking my carriage over causing me to fall out onto the ground. They also attacked my mother and a paramedic who was trying to get my dad into the ambulance. (I have no idea what the time-frame was, as I don’t remember anything about it since I was just a baby, but apparently it went on long enough for an ambulance to arrive, if it was not there already because of the riots).

We sued the cops, and as the case was going on, there was always a police vehicle outside of our apartment to intimidate us. We moved out of NYC out of fear, and when we settled out of court we were able to move away permanently, but we had such a huge family there and I missed out growing up with them. I and my sister were awarded $667 each and my mom & dad got a more substantial amount… I don’t remember exactly, but it was less than $100,000.

    • I propose that the problem today is not only with individual officers being "loose cannons" but with police training in general. Our police departments are becoming more and more miltitarized. We now have paramilitary police forces with assault rifles and armored vehicles, and that use military tactics.

Here is one article I found on the subject.

    • Fuck the police and their "tragic accidents"

I am fed up with the impunity they operate under. If you can't restrain someone for questioning without this kind of brutality, you are UNFIT to be an officer of the law, and there are too many UNFITS in uniform, and too many cover ups from the rest of them.

They are out of control and it needs to stop. Calling it a tragic accident is nothing more than lying to the public, and if people continue to tolerate it, then it isn't going to stop.

Contact your representatives and tell them enough is enough.

    • That's one of the dumbest headlines yet. Not Ras's fault, it's actually the one from the source piece. It would be a good piece except for that. I wonder what the original title was before this obviously political source blog got ahold of it.

What children? the guy has male pattern baldness for gods sake!
What butchery? The cop wasn't careful and the guy landed in a one in a hundred fashion.

Is there grounds for a civil suit here? Maybe. He did hit the guy too hard. the cop is clearly way too fat and was having trouble stopping. he should have seen the wall. Criminal? No way.

      [edit] did some digging
There is also no date mentioned. the trailing banner says sky news, but I'm not finding the video on their site. Doesn't mean it's not there. the link on the blog site has it's host as being infowars.com which is run by this guy. He's an ultra right winger know for his conspiracy stuff.

running isn't proof of guilt. And even if it was, that isn't an excuse to knock someone into a wall! And the kid wasn't running when he got knocked into a coma!

There is no justification for that cops actions, which the cop, the chief of police, and the city of Seattle will realize after the civil suit has bankrupted the Police Dept.

Wonder if the cops will think of it as just a tragic accident then.

maybe people wouldnt run if the police werent so scary. why are they scary you ask? because of shit like this. besides, if you run thats fine, if you're innocent like this victim. Maybe that officer should have asked questions first... you know like he was supposed to do. That officer was overstepping his boundaries big time... i feel a lawsuit coming on.

Exactly, do what they say. Cops are scary, that much is true. This is a horrible thing, don't get me wrong. We ask cops to risk their lives daily. Fear makes animals of us all. And in the time it takes to be rational, however little time that is, can be just enough time to lose your life. I don't think that applies in this case, it's more of commentary on all the people who want to irrationally paint with broad strokes and call all cops terrible ("animals" and "pigs"); being southern I prefer po-po. I'll mention this just to add context to my point of view, I have, WITHOUT WARNING, been tackled into a wall by a cop before. I didn't go flying like this and I didn't hit my head. So, don't say that I just haven't been mistreated by police as some sort of rebuttal.

A "tragic accident" my foot, and that was nothing like an arrest, it was a pure brutal act of inadmissible violence and aggression.
