CIA lied repeatedly to Congress since 2001, says CIA Director Leon Panetta

Exactly what actions Panetta disclosed to the House Intelligence Committee on June 24 is unclear, but committee chairman Silvestre Reyes, D-Texas, said that the CIA outright lied in one case.
“These notifications have led me to conclude that this committee has been misled, has not been provided full and complete notifications, and (in at least one case) was affirmatively lied to,” Reyes wrote in a letter Tuesday to Michigan Rep. Peter Hoekstra, the committee’s senior Republican. A copy of the letter was obtained by The Associated Press.
Reyes said in the letter that he is considering opening a full investigation.
Panetta brought the matters to the committee’s attention, CIA spokesman George Little said Wednesday.
“It is not the policy or practice of the CIA to mislead Congress. This agency and this director believe it is vital to keep the Congress fully and currently informed. Director Panetta’s actions back that up,” Little said in a statement to the AP. “It was the CIA itself that took the initiative to notify the oversight committees.”

stonefree87, Are you even an American. The congress represents us the citizens of this republic were in the hell do you get off saying that the CIA doesn't have to answer to us the government. Did the Bush years brainwash you so much you don't even know who runs the government or do like being told what to think by the right wing. Come on get real the government is us and too many of people like you would role over and have rolled over for the people who think they run the government. MY god what will it take to make someone like you to understand that nobody is above the law including the fucking CIA.

Why the hell should the CIA tell everything Congress? The very nature of everything the CIA does is secretive, and thats because it has to be in order to stay ahead of the game.
Imagine you get some sponsership, make some empty promises and manage to get elected into Congress. Does that entitle you to be in on some of most secretive shit going on in the world? Absolutely not.

I don't recall anybody saying anything about "secret governments" or "secret police".
It is extremely arrogant for the members of Congress to think they deserve to know everything the CIA is doing at all times... Much less to think that they could even handle it. There is probably not a single person in the world who knows everything the CIA does, and it's with good reason. Anybody who comes out of that sort of briefing would just want to blow their head off.
The types of things the CIA does is secrete for a reason. Do you really think we could have an effective military/defense if we didn't collect intelligence first?
Point is... Members of Congress are just elected politicians who probably never even went through a thorough background check to obtain those types of clearances. Therefore, they don't deserve to be briefed on these things... Might as well just publish all the details of the programs in the papers right?

@stonefree87:
No one is trying to make the CIA turn over lists of active agents to Congress (although Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, and Scooter Libby aren't Congress, so they might be safe). They have certain members of Congress with security clearances in the leadership and on committees whose job it is to provide oversight and prevent the CIA from engaging in the criminal activities it did in the past. Look up the Church and Pike Committees.

If you think about it, money on an exchange - everyone in the world works for money. A foreign citizen can rent the USA and go home. We are in a trust as a captive audience that has sold us like sheep to any exchange it can pass debt to. Soldiers are trained the same all over the world. If the commission has authority against hell, that is all we need to support. One religion against all religion is evil - that is politics. Cowboys And Indians. CIA.

This story doesn't report the whole story which is typical of liberal bias.
The fact is panetta said congress wasn't briefed about programs that were planned but were never implemented.
These plans although secret had nothing to do with waterboarding but this is being used by pelosi and some of her puppet senators to confuse us about the fact that she lied about being briefed on waterboarding.
If she keeps pressing it, she will only revive angst with the cia and they will be forced to publicly embarass her --she is proof that the most dimwitted schiesters rise in rank in the democrat party. - 2 years ago

There is control. Some people have it. Some people buy it. Some people buy in control. Some people buy out of control. Once it is in control, there is a synthesis of all the words. Some control represents truth as the highest secret that is a secret in its own. I find system is eventually a life process. We are in the model T of system. What we need is a new system analyst for the new economy that allows the Declaration and Constitution to get its model in the digital age. It worked fine in an analog age, but checks and balances are no longer manual.
The game is always how you treat women. Government never has controlled them and then when you go home, it is a woman whether you are in China, USA, Russia or a Island. No government is going to rule women and when you go home, it is a different world. When does anyone go home running the world?
I think what we all need to realize is that the world economy is one person at a time. The new form of system has changed check and balance from analog interpretation to digital thresholds. People are gaining space on vertical and horizontal employment and something off the vertical does not fit the horizontal they are on. That is, substance is not fitting the form. Form follows function, they are in environmental space one department at a time. Small things get attended, the big stuff could affect them.
The USA is now a contract space. In what contract you are on determines how much of the basic rights have been committeed out.

Why do we even pay these people. I would hate to be the president and have to question whether or not my own people were not giving me 110 percent. Just no more BS wars please .... please..... pretty please. What was he trying to hide. I understand that the CIA in the past has held things from the presidency, but to what end. Is congress any different? I am tired of government being treated like guard dogs for the few. I try to rationalize this in my head and if we actually knew all the things the government did we would be sick. We need to stop messing with other countries and come home already. Osama isnt coming out of his cave wherever he is. Its a wild goose chase meant to keep us and our money over there. Why doesn't anyone say. Hey china its your backyard, what the hell. do we have to chase this guy in the dessert forever. This is a biblical size F up that needs to be resolved. Iraq I cant comment because I have never been. It is evident that a modern nation could not survive for long without an intelligence gathering organization. Problems arise when these organizations fail to give full disclosure to those in oversight or try to intervene without authority in the governmental process' of other nations. How do you stop this from happening without endangering our agents and those that cooperate with them?

Not just the GOP since it has been plenty of others besides them that have accused Pelosi of complicity and being an accomplice.
Including more than a few on Current, she might have been duped like the rest of Congress but there are still a lot of evidence left incovered to explain some of her actions like "impeachment is off the table"
If she was being blackmailed for things gained by wiretapping that would explain a lot more combined with the being mislead by the CIA.
That remains to be seen until the whole story comes out.

Countdown: House Democrats on Intelligence Committee Say They Were Misled by CIA
http://videocafe.crooksandliars.com/heather/countdown-house-democrats-intelligen...Look at American history since 1963: the assassination of the Kennedys, Dr King, most of the Black Panther leadership and Jimmy Hoffa; the shooting of Governor George Wallace. The revelation of CIA plots against foreign leaders. Massive domestic surveillance and disruption programs by the FBI and CIA. The CIA shipping opium in Laos and Vietnam, organising forty, fifty thousand assassinations in Vietnam under the Phoenix programme; tens of thousand more in Indonesia. Secret wars all round the globe trying to police the US empire. All this began to emerge in the 1960s after the destruction of the Warren Commission Report on the assassination of JFK and the revelations continued through the 1970s as part of the spin-off from Watergate. Since the advent of Republican administrations in the eighties we've had Irancontra; the October Surprise; the clandestine arming of Iraq; billions of dollars ripped-off from the Savings and Loan banks; hundreds of thousand of corpses in Central America — including a few American nuns — created by death squad regimes working as US proxy governments. A vast military-industrial-intelligence complex — everything President Eisenhower warned America of in his farewell speech in 1960 — totally beyond democratic control, gobbling up hundreds of billions of dollars.

So, let me get this straight, the CIA has to tell on itself to get any action on the false pre-war intel that the Bush administration used to send our soldiers and tax dollars to Iraq........ Is that it? I'm being coy. Of course, that's what happened. But, why did they lie? At whose direction? What was their motive? Who benefited?? Keep in mind, that the CIA is part of the Executive Branch.
