Chairman Steele lures blacks to GOP with ‘fried chicken and potato salad’

bansheewail
An Indiana Republican blog got Michael Steele to answer questions from bloggers. MileHive’s Cameron Cowan asked the RNC Chairman for his plan to attract minorities to the Party. “My plan is to say ‘Y’all come,’” said Steele. “I’ve got the fried chicken and potato salad,” he added.

    • I forgot some items. In the summer time, fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, okra, and eggplant out of the garden. Tomato sandwiches during the heat of the day, fried okra, eggplant, and boiled squash, at night, which was the light meal. Black eyed peas , butterbeans, string beans, fresh out of the garden. Jam/Jelly made from pears, plums, peaches. My condolences for those that have never experienced the joys of this life!

    • This is an ignorant post! Both Blacks and White's in the South eat the same food. Fried Chicken, potato salad (German style w/mustard), coleslaw, sweet potatoes, corn on the cob, mustard or collard greens, biscuits w/gravy. Watch the movie "Soul Food" and maybe you poor deprived people will understand a small slice of life in the South. But what I miss most is the cornbread fresh out of the oven, with melted butter, served with the greens and whole milk! The food of the God's!

The lesson to take away from this is that Micheal Steele is quite gaffe-prone and is easily prompted to make extremely stupid or stupid-sounding comments on while recording devices or reporters are present. He makes Joe Biden look like Barack Obama.

    • To stop this stupid rant right now:
Did you hear what the black gay questioner asked?

What are you going to do to include gays and minorities.
To which Steele responded: tell ya'll to come! join us.

And then the young black man said: "I'll bring the collard greens"

He was making a reference to soul food.

And THAT was when Steele responded, as a black man to another black man: "I've got the friend chicken and potato salad."

There was no racist comment. Grow up.

    • For those of you cannot seem to understand why this is sad.... review this little clip and see if you think the "fried chicken" reference isn't insulting

    • LBJ "War on Poverty", has been a great success. We are all now facing poverty. I believe he was a Democrat. The mastermind of the most ignorant welfare program ever implemented. He singlehandly destroyed a long tradition of cohesive black families and destroyed much of the traditional social structure of the Nation. He labored in the shadow of JFK and wanted to make his own mark, no matter what it cost taxpayers.

    • MoonLoon:

You are free to compare the poverty rates. In doing so I suggest reviewing the increase in illegitimate births, drug addiction, and an increase in violent crime. Americans were promised a better society as poverty was alleviated. The data does not support this conclusion. Therefore, I declare the War on Poverty to be a massive scam fostered on the back of middle class taxpayers, with no return on that investment. As well as , harming those that it was meant to help. A mass exodus from rural areas to urban areas has not been good for most American families, black or white, unless the goal of the handouts was to smooth the way for Cargill to take over large areas of land and displace the small farmers, utilizing farming methods, only feasible on a large scale.

Brother man, did you know that he was responding to a gay black gay questioner?

he asked: " What are you going to do to include gays and minorities."

    • Surprisingly, I haven't heard the rage boiling over (neocongo and other gubmint sheep don't count) because there are actually, yes, Virginia, there really are Black Republicans! MLK was a republican, by the way....The true intellectuals among the Black Americans are yes, those who identify themselves as conservative republicans! The same ones who reject the whole culture of dependence that keeps the democratic party going! Yep, maasanova- what would he say? "I got the Mouton Cadet and the foie gras." www.nbra.info

      @unclecharlie

Martin Luther King, Jr. was a staunch liberal and would laugh in the faces of the idiots at the NBRA who stand in stark contrast to that for which he stood. The Democratic Party of the South was the party of white, overwhelmingly racist, conservatives, but the realignment of the two parties that began with the civil rights legislation of the 1960s and intensified with the racist Southern Strategy of Nixon and Reagan changed all of that. Believe me, I had the honor of hearing Coretta Scott King speak about her opinion of the party of Bush, Reagan, and Nixon, and that is not the party that the Kings supported.

But go ahead, continue posting your racist garbage under your pedo name.

Eleganza, tell me you didn't just call Steele a house negro!

here we go! see, this is the open minded liberal, who stands against discrimination, to save the marginalized, free the oppressed--calling black republicans HOUSE NEGROES, OREOS, UNCLE TOMS.

I'd have to say that you have just revealed your own racist beliefs.

to quote Malcom X...I guess you'll be quoting Che next. Yeah, that's a good idea. Che could be your spokesman for Health Care reform.

“In fact, if Christ himself stood in my way, I, like Nietzsche, would not hesitate to squish him like a worm”--Che

If you crack jokes about all you need to lure in minorites is fried chicken and potato salad, and you're in a political party that panders to the upper crusts of white society, then yeah you're going to get called an "Uncle Tom".

If he had answered the question seriously at first, then I would have some respect for him. However, that seems to be beyond his intellect to do.

    • This suspicious knucklehead only lured over a bunch of hungry black folks who'd say anything for free food. This is a recessionary time. A free meal is always good news.

the questioner was BLACK. and gay.

these geniuses on the page missed the fact that the questioner SAID "I'll bring the collard greens"

And that is when Steele said he'd bring the chicken and potatoes.

    • Dude, there are bigger things to get Mike Steele over than fried chicken. Besides, is it that racist to say black people like barbecues? Everyone likes barbecues. They are community events and a part of American Black Culture. Bring on the pecan pie while you're at it, Steele.

      Wrong.
The democrat's Great Society programs of 1960's have bankrupted this country. From Medicare/Medicaid, immigration, failed energy polices, federal education bureaucracy, environmental policies and other soacl engineering agendas have incrementally ground the U.S. to the state it is in now.

    • Don't believe me, watch the video for yourself. Yes, he is that blatant. To see the leader of the Grand Ole' Party speaking as an overtly racist black man, begs to have one very important question answered....

      What kind of potato salad??
