And President Obama announces $12 billion for community colleges across the US. What do you think? Is it a good strategy? Would you want to see that money elsewhere in education?
As always, if you see something out there that's not getting covered - let us know!

"And President Obama announces $12 billion for community colleges across the US. What do you think? Is it a good strategy? Would you want to see that money elsewhere in education?"
This may be tangential...
I was recently in conversation with a friend who works for one of the large online colleges about the future of the university. $500 million of the proposed funding will be dedicated to developing new online courses. Could online degree formats completely eclipse the traditional campus? Would it be so bad if they did?
I work at one of those traditional campuses where I love the community. I love seeing people, hearing people, exchanging ideas with people sitting in front of me. However, as a staff we talk about our current students as "Millenials", individuals whose technological abilities far outshine our own. Will this Millenial mentality progress to the point where a preference for online format supplants the university we know today?
Recently a part-time professor at my university received a technology merit award for creating an international virtual classroom in which American and Swedish students learned side by side. She used a variety of applications to connect the students: discussion board forums, wikis, blogs, and surveys. Students reacted positively to exchanging knowledge and ideas across countries.
What if the $500 million dedicated to online courses built more than flat lecture style webinars? If technology created international classrooms would the Millenials and generations to come opt to broaden their minds and widen their perspectives online?

On to Nigeria: The post from FP Passport detailing why the ceasefire may in fact be off after all.
"E-mailed to this blogger from spokesman alias Jomo Gbomo at 7:49am EST: 'Barely 12 hours into our ceasefire, the military Joint Task Force has dispatched seven gun boats with heavily armed troops from Warri and are headed towards one of our camps located around the Delta/Ondo state border. If this information from a very reliable source within the JTF happens to be true, the ceasefire will be called off with immediate effect.'
