D.C. Moves One Step Closer to Medical Marijuana

Tonight, MPP’s allies in the U.S. House of Representatives took a big step toward protecting medical marijuana patients in the District of Columbia.

For ten years, the D.C. spending bill has included an amendment that prevents the city from implementing a voter-approved medical marijuana initiative. Tonight, the House passed the 2010 version of the bill, wiping out the provision blocking medical marijuana.

This is a major step and likely signals ultimate victory for advocates in D.C. The spending bill will need to move through the remainder of the legislative process and be signed into law by President Obama before any changes will take effect.

    • This happening tomorrow in Denver.

      Start: 2009/07/20 - 8:30am

It's back....the Colorado Board of Health is once again considering restricting patient access to medical marijuana. At the upcoming July hearing, the Board will be voting on a rule which would rip patients out of safe caregiver relationships and force them onto the streets in search of medicine.

Show your support on July 20th by attending the Hearing and Board vote.

This is NOT a rally. This is a formal Hearing and we need supporters to dress nice and act in a professional manner.

NOTE - Many have already submitted written comments to the Board of Health. Thank you. Any new or additional comments need to be submitted by May 15.

    • It's time for President Obama to right the wrongs of Richard Nixon and reclassify cannabis. Cannabis and heroin are now classified as equal. That's an "Assault on Reason" and a lie. Cannabis and heroin are not equal!

It's time to listen to past voices of reason. Here are some of the voices, which have been silenced due to the war on cannabis.

"Prohibition... goes beyond the bound of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded" -Abraham Lincoln

"Why use up the forests which were centuries in the making and the mines which required ages to lay down, if we can get the equivalent of forest and mineral products in the annual growth of the hemp fields?" - Henry Ford, whose first Model-T was constructed from hemp fibers and built to run on hemp gasoline

"Penalties against possession of a drug should not be more damaging to an individual than the use of the drug itself; and where they are, they should be changed. Nowhere is this more clear than in the laws against possession of marihuana in private for personal use... Therefore, I support legislation amending Federal law to eliminate all Federal criminal penalties for the possession of up to one ounce of marihuana." - Jimmy Carter, U.S. President

"Hemp is of first necessity to the wealth & protection of the country."
      - Thomas Jefferson, U.S. President

"Make the most you can of the Indian Hemp seed and sow it everywhere."
      - George Washington, U.S. President

"We shall, by and by, want a world of hemp more for our own consumption."
      - John Adams, U.S. President
