Lower IQ Scores Linked to Air Pollution

Image

This study took place in Lower Manhatten and the Bronx. Even though the science is in, there will be, I am sure, a plethora of naysayers.
Even though this is a small study, the oil companies will have to do something to counteract it.

    • MilchMann,
By itinerant, I meant those in search of real news and integrity in news reporting. Which, as we all know, is not available from corporate media outlets.

    • Why is it I see all over the web, people complaining about the crap and pablum in corporate media, but the crap remains?
It must be these itinerant people I hang out with on this forum that want to remain informed and intelligent:))

itinerant? What makes you think the people on this forum are continually traveling? Pretty sure they are not door to door salesmen or day laborers either which is what that word is used in conjunction with most often.

With that said, common since says this study is right, but they did a very poor job of it and left far to many holes for the naysayers and oil companies, and that is sad.... they need to do a more thorough follow up study.

    • Its not just air pollution....

      Ten minute video....
      From the video description:
"Why is America so brainwashed by the corporate media? Why do we care more about American Idol and sports games than being poisoned with mercury in our vaccinations and sodium fluoride in our water supply? "

    • Well this isn't a surprise, but i think the study risks the implication that everyone living in a place with bad air quality has a lower IQ.

    • We are nuts in california about cleaning the environment as much as possible because we have already seen the detrimental effects on the population and do not want to live in a society where we are eating poisoned or drugged fish/poultry/meat, we do not want to breathe the toxics from our air, and we do not wish to drink all the chemicals that run off into our drinking water. We are smart enough to know all this, but getting government to react to anything or cahnge anything for teh better is nearly impossible. Big Business has every state, county, and local government by the balls, so we will continue to suffer in the name of "sustaining existing jobs" and "keeping our taxes low." While both those arguments are fine in the grand scheme of government, they are also blockades to living healthy and getting a clear picture of our reality.

California, for all of its faults:) has led the way for environmental concerns.
A few have been really ridiculous, but for the most part, I can't disagree with them.

CHICAGO – Researchers for the first time have linked air pollution exposure before birth with lower IQ scores in childhood, bolstering evidence that smog may harm the developing brain.
