MUMBAI, India – The lone surviving gunman from last year's Mumbai attacks made a surprise confession at his trial yesterday, saying he was recruited by a militant group in Pakistan after he went looking for training to become a professional robber.

Ajmal Kasab's confession bolstered India's charges that terrorist groups in neighbouring Pakistan were behind the well-planned attack, and that it is not doing enough to clamp down on them.

The Nov. 26 attack, in which 166 people died, severely strained the peace process between the nuclear-armed neighbours.
