Congressman Anthony Weiner (D., N.Y.) has introduced an amendment with the single-payer plan found in HR 676 and backed by 86 members of Congress. This would replace the insurance company bailout disguised as a public plan currently being considered.

Congress is keeping close tabs on public support. You can make a difference by calling Congress now at http://democrats.com/single-payer-committee-whip

    • He said it straight out.
i read the bill, it appears to be a good one, better than another one I read recently that would take 15 years to implement. (I think that one is actually sponsored by a few republicans)
I am all for single-payer. Allowing insurance companies to help draft health care reform, as is now part of the so called reform, is just plain ignorant.
However, any reform is a beginning. But how long will the people have to wait before we see if it works? And if it doesn't, we're still stuck with it, and how many more people will die because they can't get afford a doctor?

    • Congressman Anthony Weiner (D., N.Y.) makes the case for singe payer in his Politico column.

"By conceding that the public option would have less overhead, be more efficient and have the freedom to focus on health care rather than profits, opponents of the public option are in fact arguing for it. Isn’t complaining about the marketplace “advantage” of the public plan just another way of saying that people are going to want it?

The public option would prompt Americans to ask a basic question of the insurance company that is chasing their business: “What is it that you guys do, exactly?”
