I think its a great idea for the Obama to take time to drink a beer with a over zealous cop and a racist prof., its not like he needs to worry about unemployment being at an all time high or a war or threats by terrorist, he needs to work on his public image.

Furthermore I wish those cops had been two black guys. I'd like to see if anyone even HEARS about this story had the cops been black. I highly doubt ANY of us would know anything about this "story" or about this guy .. and Obama wouldn't have showed the world his true feelings about race (well knowing the church he went to for 20 years kinda gave that away too) .. and racism. It's not a story if it dosen't have that traditional racism and shock value.

Wow, what a tirade. I would say if you would let something like this sway you, you're not a big fan of Obama anyway. Don't try to couch your feelings in some quasi political distaste. Just be honest.
Ha, and assertion that racism is some how reversed is laughable at best. This view point is based on your experiences in the south? Where, they used to beat, harass and murder Black Americans correct? Where treating Black Americans as less than human was socially acceptable until about, oh, the 1960s correct? It's always funny that southerners always use the same phrasing when talking about leaders who happen to be Black Americans
"Anyways .. as for Barack .. he should have kept his mouth shut"
Very telling. So this is how you speak to another man if given the chance? Another citizen? Barack acknowledged he probably used to wrong choice of words. I think you could benefit from following that example and examine yourself before displaying your ignorant speak any further.

I've totally changed my viewpoint on Obama and his administration. His so-called transparency and his 'change you can believe in" is a bunch of bull malarkey. As for this incident with the professor and the cops .. idiocy. That damn idiot should realize these cops have a job to do. He was acting suspicious and they acted according to what they've been trained to do in such situations. You are seen breaking into a house without a key and then refuse to provide the cops proof that you live there .. then you're pretty much going to jail. Don't be a freaking moron and bring race into the matter. That's just a convenient excuse when in REALITY .. racism has been reversed when it comes to black and white people. Now the blacks are racist against the white folks all over .. especially where I'm from in the south where people seem to think they're owed something. Anyways .. as for Barack .. he should have kept his mouth shut and if he HAD to comment on this matter in a major speech the dude should have gotten all the facts and instead praised the police for trying to protect and serve the people of that neighborhood instead of demeaning these men and women who put their lives on the line every day to make sure people like us are safe. Obama destroyed any and all credibility I had left for him thanks to this crap. Not that he had much left anyways after his first few months in office. Dang neo-consumerist .. and globalist puppet. >_>

Holy God you're an idiot. Don't say you "changed your viewpoint on Obama" you damn liar. You are an obvious neo-con. Praised the police? That would be hilarious if it wasn't terrifying.
First, you have the story wrong. He wasn't arrested because he didn't provide ID. He provided ID and then was arrested for being rude. He was arrested for talking back to the cops in his own home. In America for God's sake. And there are little neo-con pricks like you who have no problem with that. Pathetic.

the police acted stupidly. a u.s. citizen still has freedom of speech to berate a police officer without getting arrested. the charge of "disorderly conduct" is too often abused by police to arrest anyone whom they don't like. obama's only mistake was apologizing so vehemently.

An overlooked aspect of this Press Conference is that our highly educated liberal elitist President used the word JIGGER while using a hypothetical example of himself breaking into the White House.
Can you imagine how much fun the media would have had if W. had said such a word that makes no sense in the context he used it and is racially insulting to Jews.
Oh how Barack wishes he could have that day back. Old Joe Biden is rubbing off on him.

Is true that much rabid political comment can be truly hallucinatory at times, but what does the word "jigger" have to do with Jews?
Feel feel to consult any handy dictionary. It can be a short shot of alcohol, a sailing term, or a device that works in a jerking motion.
I, and I'm certain most other folks recognized the common use (used by my family and friends) of "jigger" to manually ratchet something back and forth to open it. - 2 years ago

This incident has received way too much attention, so I'm glad it's coming to a close. I wonder how long the conservative movement is going ride this one though. Even more so, how many people are going to slop up the lies that the spew forth about it. Honestly, Crowley doesn't seem like a bad guy. I think he just made a poor decision in a tough situation. What is interesting is that he did file that police report that was later expunged. And I'm very glad to see that Gates is willing to sit and have a conversation. This is what I would call progress.

It shows just how much America's image has improved in a last few months that *one* tiny little slip of the tongue by the new president can be met with so much rigmarole.

Munich 1938, with Chamberlain and Hitler
Yalta 1945, with Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin;

Moscow 1972, with Nixon and Brezhnev;
Camp David 1978, with Begin, Sadat and Carter;
Geneva 1985, with Gorbachev and Reagan.
And last and definitely least Obama's Historic "Beer Summit"
Washington 2009, with Obama, Crowley, Gates

I've been critical of Obama many times but I have to say that this whole incident has done more damage to his reputation than anything previous.
When Obama stated that he was biased, didn't have all of the facts, and then told the world in a prime time press conference that the Cambridge PD "Acted Stupidly" it went against everything people expected of him.
The world had thought that the US finally had a president that was not biased, got all of the facts before he spoke, and when he spoke chose the right words. But shockingly Obama failed in all of these categories in the most embarrassing of ways.
And now he is only stepping in the shit further by entertaining these two men for a Beer in the White House? There is absolutely no purpose for this. An apology would do just fine and then move on back to running the free world. But hosting these men for a beer? Is Geraldo and Springer going to be there too? Hell, at the next Health Care Press Conference they should ask Obama what he thinks about Britney Spears comeback, maybe he'll enlighten us on that without any facts.
This is a major dent in the Obama persona.

This entire post is irrelevant. Why? Because if you are looking for a reason to dislike Obama, this is a pretty weak way to go about it, especially if you have conservative leanings and witnessed the racists and bigots that your candidates catered to during the last election cycle. So to hold Obama accountable for a slip of the tongue, which could happen to anyone, but ignore the vitriol that the Republican party continuously spills forth just hypocrisy. Even in light of the words that he admitted were chosen poorly, he still has done more to bring people together in the few months he has been in office that the entire breadth of the last administration. I think you just have a problem with Obama, honestly, because your accusations hold no weight, and are consistently biased. You would be better served just to present the reasons you don't like Obama, than continuously grasping at straws.

Areoh,
If you call stating Barack's words "grasping at straws," then so be it. But the FACT is, he said it, not me.
I'll say it again...
When Obama stated that he was biased, didn't have all of the facts, and then told the world in a prime time press conference that the Cambridge PD "Acted Stupidly" it went against everything people expected of him. Normal people wouldn't expect any leader to openly admit to being biased and not having all the facts, but then however say one side acted stupidly. That's just not smart, that's being stupidly. We are supposed to have a smart guy now since the stupidly one had his term limit expire.

Oh please. You wish.
First of all, what did he say wrong? The police did act stupid. Stupid is a harsh word he shouldn't have used but everything he said was right.
He said he didn't know the specifics. He said he didn't know if race was involved. He said that, because of our past, these things can have the illusion of racism even when it isn't there. He said the police acted stupidly. That's all true.
The only impact of race in this case was Gates' perspective. Perceived racism factored into him getting upset. But the case is actually about overzealous police authoritarianism. The police cuffed and arrested him after knowing it was his house simply because he talked back to them. Forget race. That's stupid police work.
We were once a free country with free speech. But because of authoritarian schmucks like you we now live in a police state. Any criticism of the police is intolerable. It's horrifying.

Ha, oh dabne. What a sad attempt to over simply what I said. At no point did I deny that he said anything. What I did say is that I do not agree with the inference that he has lost anything, and the only ones that would make that assumption are people that do not like him anyway, i.e. conservatives, racists, etc, which is irrelevant because those are just personal feelings without any merit. Now, let me be clear. I am not saying that you are any of those things, but you do share the same trait of constantly, we'll use your words 'being critical' of Obama based on nothing but personal conjecture. Repeating nonsense does not make it any less ridiculous or incoherent. Him saying what he said is a non story because he qualified it with he didn't have all the facts and was just responding off the cuff. Besides, if you are going to use one phrase to paint his entire young administration, than I would expect you to be consistent and do the same with every other politician that you are 'critical' off. Otherwise, you just come off as sounding hypocritical.
