The Sotomayor pick was part of Obama's strategy to win over Hispanics. He will also sign any amnesty-for-illegals bill that crosses his desk. Obama is all about gaining power. He is the Osheeps Panderer in Chief.

"In her own admission that a hispanic woman can do a better job than a white man. That is one racist statement if I've ever heard one." C'mon, I even asked you to be more creative and use something else. This "better job than a white man" rag is old and tired, igordy, and even if it were a racist statement, does one racist statement make someone *a racist*? You would have to prove a history of racist behavior, which you haven't. In fact, you haven't proven anything you said about Sotomayor at all.
All of your BS about quotas and selling crack on the corner and calling people the n word misses all my points and ignores the long, dark history of systematic and institutionalized racism in America. You say "You have guilt for the blacks - I don't." - It's not about guilt. It's about seeing reality for what it is; seeing racism and not making excuses for it, being educated about the history of black Americans and really, anyone who wasn't/isn't a white male.
As I said, things like BET and "black" movements had to happen to push civil rights- don't you understand that black people were treated as less than human in our country for hundreds of years, and in the minds of some, still are? I'm not asking you to take responsibility for it, as you may have done nothing to personally perpetuate it- I'm asking you to understand it, to have a real empathy for what it's like to be discriminated against on that kind of scale. The effects of slavery and treating black people as second class citizens has not just disappeared, they can still be felt to this day- and there are other minority groups being treated as second class citizens in America as well. Do you need to feel guilty? You can feel whatever you want, but ignoring those realities and being hateful (what you would call "truthful", lol) will only get you to the place you are at- unable to even have a conversation without resorting to insults, name calling, cursing and constant hypocrisy ("My religion teaches tolerance to others, dialogue and understanding"- Does it now? Perhaps you'd like to actually learn those lessons one day?) I mean really, "go back to dressing the dolls, girlie"?- debating with you is child's play as it is!

Yes, metal. In fact, you've inspired me to put them in check indeed!
Let's break down some of the comments here and see if they actually hold water:
1. "Give a little, let her slide in. It's OK that she is a racist" SLIDE IN? Did you watch the hearings at all? . Plus, I have yet to see any evidence of her being a racist. If you are going to use the very lame "better decision than a white guy" quote, I beg you to take context into consideration as well as provide more than one instance to prove racism to me.
2. "She has a severe case of diabetes"- What does this have to do with anything? I know a lot of people with diabetes who live very normal lives. Diabetes can be a very manageable disease and frankly this tidbit of info about her health has nothing to do with anything.
3. "As such, the better, stronger and smarter candidates are passed up based on their unwanted white race, to make room for the "minorities" You are of course assuming that Sotomayor was picked exclusively for her race, when the fact of the matter is she has a ton of experience on the bench. In fact, assuming that she was picked simply because she's a minority is racist- you have NO WAY to prove that your assertion is correct nor that any "better, stronger and smarter" candidates were passed over. Also, their "unwanted white race"? Seriously? You do realize that the majority of government positions are occupied by white people, right?4. "Fact is - I am no racist." Hahahahahahahaha, that's a good one! Thanks for the belly laugh!
5. "That's why we have BET, miss Black America, black churches and black colleges. That's why rappers call each other "niggas" on open airwaves - but don't you dare call me that, whitey!" Ah, my favorite argument! You see, igordy, things like BET and other "black" organizations were created due to the fact that pretty much everything was built around white people. BET was created because no one was covering so called "black" entertainment or "black" events- it's not racist, it was a way to fight racism at the time. We can draw a parallel between that and the government- the government was created by white people FOR white people, thus it has been important over the course of history to correct this and include different representations and viewpoints into our society. As far as the use of "Nigga" is concerned, black people effectively took a word that was used to dehumanize and demean them and turn it around on the very people who did that- yes, poor whitey, you can't use a word that has been used for hundreds of years to insult and offend black people. I feel soooo bad for you...
6. "Fucking Political correctness kills the very freedom of speech you fucking libtards claim to want to protect." That's why "freedom of speech" doesn't include "hatespeech", something you are clearly versed in as if it were a second language, igordy.
7. "Maybe it's time for the 'minority' to show how much damage they can do. et them mess up so people who make sense can step in and say 'I told you so'." Great, well, White people have been fucking up this country and planet for long enough- who's been there to say "I told you so" then? And what are you going to say "I told you so" about to minorities- "See! Stupid non-white people can't run the country, I told you so!" PUHLEASE!
8. Stop using Martin Luther King Jr in your arguments. I guarantee he would not agree with any of y'all's ridiculous assessments of this situation.
Pwnage complete. Thank you, come again.

I didn't find my rant negative at all. If you feel that I was wrong in some aspect, please feel free to point out where. As far as "We will get a 500 word, perfectly articulated point of how mean the world is and how perfectly articulate you are.", I can only hope to be so perfectly articulated, but in no way find the world mean. Well, sometimes it is, I guess. I go back and forth, as I imagine most people do!

Being pro-choice, I would have liked to hear a solid pro-choice stance, but it's not the only thing I base decisions around. For some people, those types of things are all they look at. Even someone like Rush Limbaugh said he would support her if he thought she was Pro-Life...I don't think any one issue should be the be all end all of a decision.

Maybe it's time for the 'minority' to show how much damage they can do. Let them mess up so people who make sense can step in and say 'I told you so'. People of power will always be scrutinized, now adding the "minority" card. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR had a dream, it's more exploited then Santa. Those of power will never be a friend, accept it. When we the people like them someone else in power becomes threaten by their presence and something happens to rid Americans of their hero...Most of America below 1million income hated Bush, we gave a retard a chance give the Hawaiian and his sombrero wearing friend a chance. When they fall you can say "I told you so"..................igordy......your right about the nigga thing, I said it a few times w/ my black/puerto rican friend in conversation after she used it to describe people. One day she tell me "I really have a problem w/ that" Fucking Hypocrite, whatever...

Give a little, let her slide in. It's OK that she is a racist - you people are tired of it - that's what's important. To keep the "tired" ones happy. Hahaha - fucking pathetic!!
She has a severe case of diabetes - so I give it 4 - 6 years - and by the time the Republican pres will be in the office - we will have a conservative judge replace the liberal one - nice!!! She is replacing another liberal one - so no loss. She is not right of center - but that's OK - she's not been extreme left either - although you never know what trips one to steer left. Obummer campaigned as a centrist - look how left we tuned - heck, he is left of Lenin!!!
Soto is a product of quota-based education. As such, the better, stronger and smarter candidates are passed up based on their unwanted white race, to make room for the "minorities" - those that aren't really the minorities anymore. Self perpetuated racism continues - black Pres (he ain't even black - white trash momma), Hispanic Judge, ultra-racist pastor for over 20 years - sure - we're making all kinds of progress here. Fucking wonderful!!!
Fact is - I am no racist. What did MLK say - judge not by the color of the skin - but by the deeds. I like that - I like that a lot. That's why we have BET, miss Black America, black churches and black colleges. That's why rappers call each other "niggas" on open airwaves - but don't you dare call me that, whitey!!!
Fucking Political correctness kills the very freedom of speech you fucking libtards claim to want to protect. Oh well - congrats - another substandard member had entered government service - hallelujah. Go drink some more coolaid...

Interesting that as the country moves further towards not making race an issue, more is made of issues based on race. We already had a first woman in Sandra O'Connor. Clinton needed to put his imprimatur on the court with the first Jewish Woman. Now, 0bama's turn has come with the first Puerto Rican (Lahtina), diabetic, woman.
What's next?

As a white male, I am terrified of this and want the nightmare to end........ just kidding.
It's about time we have more diverse representation in the government. Its silly that for so long, men have dictated laws about abortion, an issue with women at its very center.
I'm still not crazy about court appointees being installed for life - that's a little ridiculous too, but whatever. Latinos are a huge percentage of the USA. I think we're all best served by someone who has lived that perspective than someone who only hears about it, etc.

These confirmation hearings had no substance because Sotomayor gave such vague answers at such a slow pace, to make it look like she actually made a concrete statement, when in reality nothing was said. There was more focus on her nationality than on anything else. WTF!! It goes to show how lame our govt. is with DEMS. distracting us from the real issues by flaunting her upbringing and REPS. trying not to seem racist by pointing out her slightly racist self-promotion as a better-than-you-Latina. Her and Obama talk the same talk, spinning verbs like HOPE and CHANGE but no real ANSWERS, just jabber-jawing away until nobody pays attention anymore.

I'm sick of hearing about it too.
For some reason, it just seems just as racist-ish to me to make a big deal of "first black president," "first Hispanic justice," etc. MLK invisioned a world in which people are not concerned by the color of one's skin but the quality of one's character.

Well, you're kind of looking at it the wrong way.
It's not really about a monumental achievement for the specific race that was newly elected, it's a recognition that America has changed in a big way.
If news came out that a Hispanic woman was going to become Supreme Justice even back in the 1980's, there would have been a national racist uproar.
In other words, take in the context of American history please.

Spot on! A sign that America has moved beyond racism is when nobody makes a fuss, positive or negative, about what color people are in regard to what they do.
I feel that if a person's race is supposed to be considered irrelevant when that person does something negative, then race should also be considered irrelevant in anything else.
As long as people want to cling to racism for "the good things", I believe that undesired forms of racism will never die.
Racism is irrelevant to most everything. Let go of it people.

But we're not there yet. It's not "self perpetuated racism"- there is great value in celebrating America's changing attitude towards minorities and representing them in our government system.
One day I'm sure we won't have to make a big deal about these kind of things, a day when racism is nearly non-existent and minority representation is common.
