KEVIL, KY (KFVS) - A man was shot and killed in McCracken County after police say he tried to break into a family's home around 2:00 a.m.
The family woke to the sound of the alarm system, indicating the door to the attached garage had been opened. The homeowner went outside to investigate, when he heard his wife inside screaming.
He ran back into the home where his wife told him the intruder, later identified as 18-year-old Andrew Caleb Barnett, was inside their attached garage attempting to get into the home through a wooden door with a window, according to police. The homeowner reportedly yelled several times that he had a gun, telling Barnett not to come inside. However, Barnett continued to make advances toward the man. Police say the homeowner fired one shot at Barnett, hitting him in the arm, and going into his chest area. Barnett apparently fell to the floor but got back up fighting the homeowner, at one point, biting him in the arm.
The fight continued through the home and eventually back into the garage. When police arrived they arrested Barnett and transported him to Western Baptist Hospital for the gunshot, but he ultimately died.

It's a little sad, in that the stupid drugged up kid apparently just thought he was breaking into his own house. But the fact that he attacked the homeowners kind of alleviates any feeling of guilt I'd have. He was warned "I have a gun" but kept on coming.
Stupid is as stupid does.

yep, dude acted in his right to protect his life, if he issued a warning first then its just tragic that a kid died for being a dumbass (doing hard drugs).

The kid didnt think it was his house he thought he could get something to sell so he could buy more drugs.

we want to legalize marijuana. We have thousands of people in jail (that were paying for by the way) for nothing more than smoking marijuana. Marijuana does not lead to crazy actions like this, it has less health impact than cigarettes, it CAN be used medicinally, etc etc.
no one wants meth legalized, though i think most would prefer treatment to incarceration. look at europe, why do they have such a lower crime rate when their those uber liberal pot heads? think about it.

It's sad the kid had to die, but the homeowner had no way of knowing who the kid was or what he was up to. The home owner had a responsibility to protect his own family.
The right people were arrested, the ones who sold/gave the drugs to the kid.

Really people do need to take a stand for their families and when the family is safe at the end of the day (or night) and the person breaking in is fitted for a toe tag its a win plain and simple...
For the people who think that guns are so wrong try and imagine what would happen to you and your non-gun-totting self if someone came to your house and wished to do harm ;-)

I'm as pro Second Amendment as a person can be Curtis, and yet I still see no victor. The kid was a stoner no doubt, but he apparently thought he was at his own house. He even called the homeowner dad, according to the linked article. No malice is evident and I would have probably shot his ass myself. Still, in THIS particular instance, IMHO, it was just another fucked up day for some on planet Earth.
