Rachel Maddow has been ripping through these guys for weeks now...
general yawn...
They've been taking over our military...
universal snore...

What God wants, God gets , Got help us all !

On the Rachel Maddow Show, some of you may have seen the author of "The Family" discussing the chilling political implications and "Super Christian Men" theories of Republican senators and congressmen who believe they are above moral reponsibility and the law because they have been "chosen" by God to lead the "ignorant" sheeple.

The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power (July, 2009 Paperback Edition). Sen Ensign is Only the Latest Errant Bad Boy to Receive the "Spiritual" Support for His Sin from this Capitol Hill Elitist Fundy "Fellowship." They are Also Called the "C Street" Brethern. We Call Them Contemptible Hypocrites. Even Mark "Dick Wad" Sanford Found "Solace" With Them. Featured July 9th and 10th on the Rachel Maddow Show and Politically Scary as All Hell.

They don't like an organized church because it's too democratic. They like this sort of behind-the-scenes elite approach.

Doug Coe has done political favors for dictators like Suharto of Indonesia and Siad Barre in Somalia, Jonas Savimbi in Angola. They look for the leader who they believe is chosen by God.

Evidence is his power, his wealth, and his willingness to align himself with their version of American power.

The dictator Suharto in Indonesia was one such. They organized meetings for him with American defense contractors, with the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, with the secretary of defense, and most notably, since Indonesia is a major oil producing company with American oil executives, who described their meetings in memos of Congress as great moments of spiritual honesty between themselves and the dictator.

The Family (Christian political organization

cut & paste this link, it just refuses to work otherwise...

Exposés

Jeff Sharlet lived with the Family for a month, and wrote a book and articles regarding its secretive nature, connection to disreputable regimes, and dedication to power.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Sharlet

Rachel Maddow has run a multi-story expose on the organization's influence on American politics. In addition to Chip Pickering, John Ensign, and Mark Sanford, on July 18, 2009, she identified Congressman Todd Tiahrt (R-KS) as a member and interviewed Jeff Sharlet about a "spiritual counseling" session he witnessed between Tiahrt and Coe, in which Tiahrt expressed concerns that abortion should be banned in order to better compete with the Muslim birthrate, and Coe told Tiahrt that he was thinking on too small a scale. Coe told Tiahrt to work for "Jesus Plus Nothing... the totalitarianism of Christ." According to Sharlet, Coe then gave Tiahrt his usual roster of examples of totalitarians who had great power: Hitler, Pol Pot, Osama bin Laden, etc

Sarah Palin’s selection as vice president, while it was necessary for the Republican Party, was also a complete disaster. She wasn’t qualified. Most Americans saw that. But the Republican base had been winnowed out and was so heavily evangelical, so Southern, that they had no other choice but to pick this person, who the patrician former Republican senator from Rhode Island, Lincoln Chafee, described as a “cocky wacko.” Peggy Noonan, I think, the Reagan speechwriter, you know, called her, I think, a “lunatic.” But that’s what the Republican Party had become, the party of Palin.

So what happened was, John McCain won three percent more of the conservative vote than George W. Bush, who was a hardcore conservative, and lost 20 percent of the moderate votes that George W. Bush had, even though McCain was seen as a moderate. That’s because of selecting Palin, because he had to cater to what the Republican Party had become.

    • LISTEN & FUCKIN' CRINGE ;)

The problem is, it has no capacity for bipartisanship. Everyone knows—well, it’s clear from reading my book, Republican Gomorrah, that—you know, and the picture that I provide of the Republican Party, through my, you know, research on it and my reporting on it, that they’re not going to compromise on healthcare.

And so, the idea that, you know, producing a bipartisan healthcare bill is going to be a better bill is a delusion. They won’t produce a bill at all. And Barack Obama’s tendency towards bipartisanship, I think, disregards the lessons of my book and will essentially damage the Democrats and especially the progressive agenda, because the people who I describe in my book, the movement I describe, knows that any government solution to the common personal crises that are happening every day in America—and a lot of them are related to healthcare problems—will mean the death of the empire of James Dobson and his allies.

    • Exposed: ‘C Street’ and The Military
      http://pubrecord.org/religion/3427/exposed-street-military/

Making the connections between the Family and the military is “a new front” — a front that is leading to new revelations about some old discoveries. For example, the participants in the Campus Crusade for Christ Christian Embassy Video — a video that led the Military Religious Freedom Foundation to demand an investigation by the Department of Defense Inspector General in which seven officers were found guilty of ethics violations — also included, in addition to the military officers, many other government officials and politicians.

      http://www.truthtopower.tv/warning.htm

It is, though, characterized by the will of the people being replaced by the will of the corporations in the seat of power & decision.

Is the U.S. on the Brink of Fascism?
By Sara Robinson, Campaign for America's Future. Posted August 7, 2009.

All through the dark years of the Bush Administration, progressives watched in horror as Constitutional protections vanished, nativist rhetoric ratcheted up, hate speech turned into intimidation and violence, and the president of the United States seized for himself powers only demanded by history's worst dictators. With each new outrage, the small handful of us who'd made ourselves experts on right-wing culture and politics would hear once again from worried readers: Is this it? Have we finally become a fascist state? Are we there yet?

There are dangerous currents running through America's politics and the way we confront them is crucial. http://www.alternet.org/rights/141819/is_the_u.s._on_the_brink_of_fascism/

    • Wouldn't it be nice if there were a "Committee for Aesthetic Deletions" like in the books "Cat who could walk through walls" and "To sail beyond the sunset". Their job is to eliminate people who have committed terrible atrocities against humanity. They travel in time and do Aesthetic Deletions which is just a fancy name for Assassinations.

If there were such an organization, they would undoubtedly target the leaders of the "Family".

      Blackwater Founder Implicated in Murder
by JEREMY SCAHILL August 4, 2009
      http://www.thenation.com/doc/20090817/scahill

These allegations, and a series of other charges, are contained in sworn affidavits, given under penalty of perjury, filed late at night on August 3 in the Eastern District of Virginia.

Briefed on the substance of these allegations by The Nation, Congressman Dennis Kucinich replied, "If these allegations are true, Blackwater has been a criminal enterprise defrauding taxpayers and murdering innocent civilians." Kucinich is on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and has been investigating Prince and Blackwater since 2004.

"Blackwater is a law unto itself, both internationally and domestically. The question is why they operated with impunity. In addition to Blackwater, we should be questioning their patrons in the previous administration who funded and employed this organization. Blackwater wouldn't exist without federal patronage; these allegations should be thoroughly investigated," Kucinich said.

A hearing before Judge Ellis in the civil cases against Blackwater is scheduled for August 7.

    • PROOF OF CONCEPT
With all of the insanity and ignorance flowing from the GOP, its hard to keep track of every misstep that they take. That's why we've got comedian and cartoonist Matt Filipowicz, who keeps a close eye on the lunacy of the Right, and uses their own ignorance against them with his cartoons and comedy routines, and recently set down with Mike Papantonio to run through some of the most absurd stories coming from the traditional media over the last few weeks.

    • EXECUTIVE RESUME

For decades, a secretive religious society has been operating out of Washington, D.C., providing support and shelter for the few members of Congress worthy enough to join. Ring of Fire first covered the story with author Jeff Sharlet several years ago, but only after the affairs of John Ensign and Mark Sanford did the organization gain national attention. Mike Papantonio talks about the group's powerful ties to politician, and offers some additional insight into their workings.

    • Why try to censor an artist in a democracy indeed, unless you are suffering from a common politicians’ mental disorder called Indicogniphobia (fear of independent thinking).

I have seen art provoke emotions in people that compete with the nationalistic numbing emotion induced on the crowd. This in turn can cause the people to stop and think about their emoting. The unfortunate end could be adding independent thinking before acting! And that thought causes monstrous fear for certain types of political “leaders.”

Zappa is correct, we must teach all of the people, so that they can make informed decisions about the future of this country, when they vote... I hope the youth also realize how important that learning the truth, about what is going on in the modern world, really is...

    • If sunlight is the best disinfectant then this story and these people need to have a very bright light kept on them until society is purged of these miscreants.

We have seen a number of stories surface as the melding of radical, call them christian fanatics and Aryan groups growing in numbers in the military.
I was not aware of this "Family" until seeing Sharlot on Bill Maher.
This certainly explains the hypocrisy of religious fanatics in Washington. They believe they are above it all.

On one hand they support military occupations and wars where civilians, mostly children, are killed in the name of democracy and the losses are accepted as collateral damage. But on the other hand they have no problem with preaching or imposing and trying to legislate their twisted views of morality with an anti-abortion and "pro-life" agenda. Completely void of any moral compass.
They get support from right wing radical media and it's fringe minions as they fan the flames of lunacy producing actions like bombing an obgyn clinic or shooting the Dr..

Here you could be referring to the "Family" or the Vatican.

    • I'm glad I got to see the above video clip, briefly airing the voice and experience of Jeff Sharlet...now I must read the book...

It's amazing how the self righteous 'holier-than-thou' do-gooders can pontificate with such authority and justify each other's transgressions while, at the same time, hiding in the shadows, embroiled in the surreptitious blantant betrayal of the public trust, believiing all the while that they are above the law... this behavior should be considered nothing short of criminal...

Jesus doesn't want us to hide the light under a basket, but to deliver it in the open, so that all may take advantage of its brilliance... If these misguided men believe they must clean up the world for Jesus before he will come back, then perhaps they should realize, that he's been here all along, but they are not following in his footsteps...

Is it the fear of Islam that drives these mindless 'so called' 'chosen ones' to the brink of fundamentalist behavior..? They, in essence, become the 'pot' calling the 'kettle' black... when will they get a clue..?

    • If Evangelical Pentecostal Xtians of this sort are given the chance they would institute an Ayatollah like regime over the United States. They would suspend the Constitution and setup Morality Police. They would seize the Big Brother powers of the Nation and use its vast network of wiretapping and monitoring to round up all the undesirable people in their perfect Xtian society and put them to the choice: convert or face death.

They have interpreted their prophecies to mean that they must clean up the earth before Christ is going to set foot on it again.

Don't kid yourself if you think this could never happen here, we already came close several times in the past. Armed with the Patriot Act, Homeland Security, and the US Private Military Forces they could execute a coup.

It would not be pretty and many people will undoubtedly try to leave the country if that were to happen.

      WHO WOULD JESUS BOMB ?
      WHO WOULD JESUS TORTURE ?

      Specialy when we know that...

      Most Victims are Children !

As wars have developed in the twentieth century, the ratio of civilian deaths to military deaths has changed radically. One hundred years ago 5% of war casualties were civilians. In World War I civilian deaths were about 10%. In World War II, 65%. Tactics of modern wars have shifted casualties to 90% civilians.

More than half of these civilian casualties are children less than 14 years of age. This is only the direct casualties from bombs, bullets and landmines. Add to this indirect and long-term casualties caused by destroyed infrastructure and a fractured society. resulting in disease, starvation, homelessness and the numbers become even more grim.

On top of this add the long term effects of highly toxic armaments rained down upon the victim country – Agent Orange in Viet Nam, Depleted Uranium in Yugoslavia, Iraq and Afghanistan – and the result is generations of suffering borne by civilians, mostly children.

Your tax dollars pay for this.

      http://www.harpers.org/archive/2009/05/0082488

Jesus kill Mohammed! chanted the interpreter. Jesus kill Mohammed!

A head emerged from a window to answer, somebody fired on the roof, and the Special Forces man directed a response from an MK-19 grenade launcher. Boom, remembers Humphrey. The head and the window and the wall around it disappeared.

Jesus kill Mohammed! Another head, another shot. Boom. Jesus kill Mohammed! Boom. In the distance, Humphrey heard the static of AK fire and the thud of RPGs. He saw a rolling rattle of light that looked like a firefight on wheels. Each time I go into combat I get closer to God,

Humphrey was stunned. Hed been blown off a tower in Kosovo and seen action in the drug war, but hed never witnessed a maneuver so fundamentally stupid.

As one of my 4 musketeers points out ;)

Empire of Illusion: The End of Literacy and the Triumph of Spectacle "Chris Hedges argues that we now live in two societies: One, the minority, functions in a print-based, literate world, that can cope with complexity and can separate illusion from truth.

The other, a growing majority, is retreating from a reality-based world into one of false certainty and magic. In this 'other society,' serious film and theater, as well as newspapers and books, are being pushed to the margins."

"A culture that cannot distinguish between reality and illusion dies. And we are dying now. We will either wake from our state of induced childishness, one where trivia and gossip pass for news and information, one where our goal is not justice but an elusive and unattainable happiness, to confront the stark limitations before us, or we will continue our headlong retreat into fantasy.
