After decades of being misinterpreted, industrial hemp is staging a comeback in Renfrew County.

Municipal leaders and county officials saw firsthand some of the byproducts and benefits that can be yielded from a hemp plant during a demonstration at a township farm near Micksburg this week.

Farmer and entrepreneur Reuben Stone saw the opportunity after being approached by the Ontario Hemp Alliance to become a major grower of commercial hemp grain.

He is currently growing 100 acres making him the largest single grower in Ontario.

"It's got a lot of potential here," said Mr. Stone, owner/operator of Stone Farms and Valley Bio Ltd. "The development of it should be worth something."

Hemp production has replaced corn and soybean crops at his farm.

    • The Truth will set you FREE. It's the big corporate money, controlling the politicians to keep on telling lies (brainwashing) about hemp. What are they afraid?

    • In case you haven't noticed Jack, Hemp has been legal for a long time in Ontario, and Ontario is still in a major recession much like California.

The hemp industry is not creating major shockwaves in Ontario, just as would it not create any in California. If they want to legalize hemp growing in California, I could care less, but don't push this garbage that it will revolutionize the world and pull everyone out of the recession. It won't. Ontario is an excellent case study.

    • I wish this article went more into the wonderful health benefits that hemp has with consumption. Hemp is packed with the essential building blocks Omega 3 and 6. I personally am vegan and find hemp an important piece in nourishing my body. Hemp can be consumed as the seed sprinkled on cereal (or yogurt), milk (Living Harvest makes the only one i can find at the store), oil, and now I have even found vegan ice cream made with hemp milk (its called Tempt).

This Jack Herrer guy didn't mention the health benefits to consuming marijuana because he's smart enough to know that if he did, he'd lose even more of his credibility.

You need read jack's book. Go to his website and learn. He's not afraid to tell the truth. His credibility has only increased as of late. Look around even the US Government is doing studies on the health benefits of hemp.

    • When will we see the USA legalize Hemp again? It is an unbelievable plant, with so many uses. The Government should be ashamed of themselves for blowing smoke in our eyes for so many years. I think we are starting to see a lot clearer now. It is only common sense we use this plant in positive ways.
