See rebellion at grass roots

Watch congressional greetings at town hall meetings at home

WASHINGTON – Call it the tea party that never ends.

A rebellion is brewing in home congressional districts of incumbent Democrats evidenced by the reaction at several town hall meetings.

Members are being forced to suspend meetings with their constituents, screaming protesters are being dragged out of events by police and officials are being greeted by protest signs and chants.

Rep. Tim Bishop, D-N.Y., has called off further events.

"I had felt they would be pointless," he said. "There is no point in meeting with my constituents and [to] listen to them and have them listen to you if what is basically an unruly mob prevents you from having an intelligent conversation."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

**Base on the video, it doesn't appear to be an unruly mob. It appears they disagree with the congressman and he appearently dislikes the atmosphere and the potential it carries moving forward, should his constituents dethrone him.

    • Silent no more... about what?

      When were they silent?

They have the corporate media saying the same exact things they are saying.

      Sheeple.

    • all the paranoia and fear built up by the bush administration had the perfect outlet on a liberal black man being in charge.

that's all it is. pent up frustrations finally coming to the surface. let'em rage, it doesn't mean anything and they'll exhaust themselves eventually

    • the government is not perfect and it's not easy being a politician, i understand my fellow citizen's fears.

but they are paranoid, angry, rude, lack empathy, under/un-educated, and don't BELIEVE IN SCIENCE, but probably in baby jesus they do. they overwhelmingly negated the fact of global warming and yell no, ignorant fools.

these morons need to go do some research, talk to some economist and scientists.

I speak your language Oracle, but do not practice your faith. There are other non-christians who do not speak in the language of science. However, what does make bad science is polical science. I do believe that the globe is warming and that its ultimate fate will be in fire. Where I disagree with you is the source for the cause. You see, the earth has been warming in periods of about 500 years, when solar flares were at their highest. High intensity solar flare periods have shortened (like birth pangs) in the last 400 years and scientists seek to find refuge for humankind in the stars (i.e. Triton, Titan, Mars), but in 2003, after seeing the space shuttle pass through our atmosphere like a falling star, I knew our place and fate was meant to be here.

very nice response. i don't pracitce any faith, i practice research, evidence, and the truth. the truth is like the sun, it's the most powerful and brightest. i must say that the notion of the planet going through a "hot" phase and people making it hotter can happen simultaneously. no way that ANY intelligent human being is going to say that all the over-human activity on this planet is NOT affecting our climate, pollution, purity, and equilibrium. we are slowly killing this planet and our future, because today's paper towel is more important than tomorrow's forest.

Oracle, you've just said it better than I think I've heard it put. I too believe it's about 30% people and 70% nature.

But just because it is at least part nature, we still should do all we can to curb greenhouse gasses and less oil, only without wrecking the economy and the US manufacturing base, or what's left of it. It just makes too much sense.

I think a lot of people are reluctant to jump on the Goreites band wagon, because they are so fanatical about their beliefs, it's that environmental munchenhausen thing.

again, i have not read or looked into the statistics, science, studies, and what not, but from at least 10 different sources, i think that it's people at least 50% if not more, could be all the way up to 85% i'd say, cause nature does play some role in it.

we're all speculating here obviously, but it's a serious problem, and deserves serious analysis and answers, not arguing about al gore or other non-sense.

no matter how you look at it, OUR population keeps going up, and with it, pollution, burning of hydrocarbon fuels, clearing of forests....so the #1 problem is to keep humans from making more humans, class dismissed.

@hunzedog..." not just a bunch of handpicked lapdog yes men who ask pre-approved questions for pre-determined answers." It takes less typing if you just call them "the media". ;-)

You just answered your own question. By asuming his constituents were ignorant, he attempted to explain the situation by applying a technique in project management we call "smoothing". In his attempt to "explain" things to his "ignorant" constituents, by default, he has already ignored the wishes of his constituent and has therefore angered them. Does this answer your question, or are still seeing red and blue?

Funny, it seemed to me that the video was edited in such a way as to give truncated responses. After the film maker got the little blurb he/she wanted, it cut straight to the next scene. Hard to tell exactly what the guy's full answers to any question were.

As far as my ignorant and angry people comment, yes, it is clear that these folks are there all ramped up by right-wing talk and news shows and armed with all of the talking points. They were filled with comtempt with their rep. before he even opened his mouth. They didn't come for answers, they were there to show their anger and throw their percieved weight around.

    • I like the way they called him out when he said "government isn't trying to takeover healthcare" at about 6:50 into the video.
That's what we have to do, let them know what we want.
Depending on who runs against him, as long as they aren't a child molester or member of the taliban, I'm voting against my setting congressman.
