I don't think people should be able to have citizenship in more than one country personally.

But Kenya's official independence was in 1963, and any number of labels could have been applied to government documents during that time period.

At Ameriborn Constitution News, the researcher noted that the independence process for the nation actually started taking as early as 1957, when there were the first direct elections for Africans to the Legislative Council.

"Kenya became an Independent Republic, December 12, 1963, which gives more [credibility] that this is a true document," the website stated.

The 1963 independence is corroborated by several other information sources, including the online African History.

Even the People Daily news agency cited, on Dec. 12, 2005, the "42nd independence anniversary" in Nairobi. "The country gained independence from Britain on Dec. 12, 1963," the report said.

An online copy of the Kenya Constitution, "adopted in 1963, amended in 1999," states: "CHAPTER I - THE REPUBLIC OF KENYA, Article 1, Kenya is a sovereign Republic. Article 1A, The Republic of Kenya shall be a multiparty democratic state…" "

Saladin, the only "birth certificate" shown is a "short form", which has been issued to infants who were born out of the country. Allegedly, Obama's half sister, was born in Indonesia, but Hawaii issued a certificate of live birth.

Note that these do NOT show a hospital name, doctor name, etc. They do not even say that the child was actually born in that state.

I have seen a document that came from Indonesia where the Soeteros (Barack's Mom and his step father) registered him in school there as an Indonesian citizen. According to what I read, Indonesia does not recognize dual-citizenship, so they would have had to state that they were not citizens of another country, or revoke their citizenship in other nations (such as the USA).

If it is found that this document is real and Obama doesn't qualify for the US Presidential chair, then I fully expect him to resign and cede all of his presidential power to Biden (which is a problem in and of itself). It would suck really hard if it's true, cuz I think he's doing a good job thus far and he's probably going to do better once time passes, but if he's up there unlawfully, he needs to be taken down.

Oh, and no definitive news on the Palins yet. Remains to be seen.

no, jh, he's making a very valid point, actually. We don't have absolutely 100% solid proof that either one is the certificate. Not that I believe he isn't an American citizen, but it IS true that birth certificates can be forged.

@JH: No im really not. I do believe that he was born here in the states. I think there may be something to the fact that he MAY have given up his citizenship to go to school in Kenya, I also think it MAY be possible that he never renewed or resigned up or whatever to get his citizenship back. I do believe that obama was born in the states though. Just raising some hell ya know.

lazer_bean: I believe the historic reason why the provision was specifically put into the constitution was because, in the previous centuries, dynasties such as the Habsburg dynasty had been created in which Royal families intermarried across Europe and their offspring were the heirs to the crown. So some countries ended up with rulers who were born and raised in other nations and who had special emotional bonds to their "homeland", and ruled in a way that benefitted those countries, to the exclusion and suffering of the nation they now ruled.

Since our founders formed a Republic, with democratically elected officials, the threat of a "dynasty" such as the Habsburgs was reduced, although not entirely eliminated. There was always the risk that wealthy foreign powers might be able to gain control of the government if foreign-born individuals were allowed to be elected to the highest office. One can imagine a scenario in which the Chinese or Russians, for example, would back a candidate financially and give them an unfair advantage over domestic candidates, win election, and then have control of the whitehouse. And if they control the Whitehouse...then our national sovereignty would have been undermined.

Imagine what a President could do to damage us.

Imagine if he levied taxes to deliver services to his favored foreign nation...robbing our treasury to enrich his former nation.
Or if he withdrew US forces from the region, giving his old country dominance in the area.
Or, if the intent was to destroy the US, he could enact a number of policies that would subtly but significantly reduce US strength.

How? Well, imagine if they were to increase US debt to the point that the dollar was weakened. Our creditors could demand immediate payment, and then if not paid, rationalize the appropriation of US property wherever found.
A leader could increase spending and endebtedness to the point that the nation was bankrupted, thus forcing the nation to retract, diminishing our ability to wage war in defense of our national interests.

These are just a few of MANY possible outcomes.
