For some obvious reasons, Republicans, especially John McCain shows how he is not in favor of the Cash for Clunkers bill – or anything good for anyone – and he is also a vocal opponent of the health care reform package, which is seen as a step towards universal health care, or Obamacare as it's described in the press. The Republican Party seems bent on putting short term loans and whatever else they can into stopping many of Obama's programs, regardless of how good of ideas they may be. The Cash for Clunkers bill might save people from needing no fax payday loans for a car payment, and stimulate auto sales if it's allowed to work.

To bad so sad John McCain... the man really is a very sour looser. Oh well, cash for clunkers just got a 2B boost...
My personal sentiment is that we should hold this program every quarter, and start raising the bar, say 2-4 more MPG a year... That will give car manufacturers real incentive to actually produce efficient vehicles too, petroleum lobbyists would be hard pressed to compete against that kind of capital.
It is good for the economy and it is good for the population at large. This has the possibility as going down as the best legislation in a long time.

One car dealer told me they ship them down to Mexico by the truckload for resale.
On another note, he nor I exist.

The program is a win, win in my opinion. It gets a bunch of beater cars off the road, cleaning the air. People get a hand up to get a new car, stimulating the economy. It also raises the value of used cars.

Why are we not looking at other solutions. Why buy this scam of "CASH FOR CLUNKERS" yes its a way to supposedly revive the economy but we are missing the point. We dont need more cars! Sunny's my hero in this regard. Lets pay attention to what the real issues are shall we?

it definatley does what it was intended to do;it got gas guzzlers of the road and gave us the stimulus we needed.i do,however, think its a terrible waste of good automobile engines.

To some there are a few very desirable cars being destroyed, the main waste is in the destroying of the engines... but this might help the steel industry down the line, possibly aluminum too, though those engines are usually pretty efficient. I mean, if you wanted to a Dodge Viper qualifies... would be kinda silly... but hopefully you get the point.

One of the main reasons for the program is reducing pollution and emissions.
That is why the engines must be destroyed.
If we resell the clunkers, we fail to accomplish one of the programs primary objectives.

Why would you be upset by that? I hardly think a 67 Nova, or a Shelby Cobra is amongst them. There are a few obscure cars out there that would suck for... say an 83-86 Corolla GT, but there are still a fair number of those that are immortalized and in theory got to good of gas mileage anyway... so for the majority it is actually a blessing, this is how cars end up becoming collectible. Who would have ever though 50 years ago that a Scout would be a collectible? Some day someone may decide that an 87 f-150 and its 12 mi gallons is worth $50-$100k because there are not any left because of this... how is that a bad thing? Unless you were the guy that sold it for good gas mileage 20 years prior... heh, was it worth it?

This is stupid when PETA does it with living things. The thought of complaint about lame polluting junker cars is beyond dumb.
People aren't doing this with nice vehicles, they aren't offering enough money. The idea is to get these vehicles off the road and lower American dependence on foreign oil. Keeping these engines running is counter productive to that.
