Republicans Propagating Falsehoods in Attacks on Health-Care Reform

Image
Chique
The recent attacks by Republican leaders and their ideological fellow-travelers on the effort to reform the health-care system have been so misleading, so disingenuous, that they could only spring from a cynical effort to gain partisan political advantage. By poisoning the political well, they've given up any pretense of being the loyal opposition. They've become political terrorists, willing to say or do anything to prevent the country from reaching a consensus on one of its most serious domestic problems.

There are lots of valid criticisms that can be made against the health reform plans moving through Congress -- I've made a few myself. But there is no credible way to look at what has been proposed by the president or any congressional committee and conclude that these will result in a government takeover of the health-care system. That is a flat-out lie whose only purpose is to scare the public and stop political conversation.

    • This looks pretty organized to me.

      Operation Recess Rally
      On August 22nd, 2009
      Background
The core groups behind the Tax Day Tea Party, joined by a plethora of liberty movement minded organizations, coalitions and grassroots groups, are once again working together in a unified effort for freedom.

The initial project, as most Americans know, helped organize the April 15th, Tax Day Tea Party effort that resulted in a day of rallies in more than 835 cities across all 50 states. The TaxDayTeaParty.com website witnessed more than 1.7 MILLION unique visits in less than six weeks.

This success was only possible because of a coalition of groups and Americans working towards the same goal in a collaborative and unified effort.

      The Problem
We as a coalition believe that our Government has crossed the line. This betrayal began at the end of the Bush administration when the bailouts started being pushed through and our free-market foundation came under attack.

The current administration and congress has intensified the attacks on the foundation of America. First it was the wildly irresponsible “Stimulus Package” that only “stimulated” the pockets of special interest groups… all at the expense of the taxpayers.

Then came the constant nationalizing of the private industry and the declaration of war against the free-market system and private business.

The final blow appears to be in the form of fully socialized healthcare. If passed, we believe this legislation will create problems that are virtually impossible to fix. We also believe that if this legislation is passed, the private industry and small businesses of America will face certain death in the very near future.

      This is unacceptable.

      Operation Recess Rally
On August 22nd, 2009, during the break in session, we the people fully intend to hold mass rallies outside of every single congressional office in the country.

These events will represent a strong statement that we’ve been pushed to the edge and simply cannot be pushed any further. It is at this time that we will also hand deliver a coalition letter to every single congressional office in the country.

      Your Help Required
As was the case with the Tax Day Tea Party, this MUST be a grassroots powered, collaborative effort. This means that people like YOU will have to take ownership at the local level.

We need local organizers to began organizing, we need activist to help activate, and we need all hands on deck to help spread the word.

The concept is simple, the operation brand is simple… now all we need to do is implement it.

    • Anyone that thinks the Republicans aren't organized, or powerful enough to torpedo healthcare reform guess again. There is an army of stupid people that will do their bidding, even when it is against their own interests.

Personally I'd like to see great big Democrats wearing "Event Staff" shirts show up at those rallys.

    • The "commie" model Obama wants to force on all of us has never been used anywhere on earth.

Oh wait.....it's used EVERYWHERE ON EARTH!

Literally no country on the planet wants to implement the system we are using. EVERYONE uses a public system.

Question: if the healthcare in Europe and the rest of the world is sooooo horrible that there are literally thousands of unburied corpses lying in the streets (diend waiting for healthcare or personally murdered by the State to save money, of course. Just like Sean Hannity said) --- why is it that none of the citizens want to change it?

      Probably because it's not true.

Their healthcare systems actually work beautifully and the only ones who have been convinced otherwise are Southern Republicans who have never left the country and get all their "news" from FOX.

That might also depend on your health and your age.
If you have ever known any other system, besides government systems and if waiting, rationing, out dated equipment and procedures would actually affect you.

If you are healthy and young like most posters here are, they probably don't give a shit, it's a political win/loss.

But there are real Americans who will suffer from such systems. (Why do I not live with my love in AUS? my health plan doesn't work out of the USA and I don't want their government health care if I get married, and he doesn't want to leave his AUS due to family issues.)

P.S. I have been lucky to see alot of the world, the good and the bad of it. So don't make such conclusions when trying to stereotype people... also the only thing that I needed to oppose the bill is to understand several of the details FROM THE BILL ITSELF. I need no one to spoon feed me anything about this topic.. NOT Fox news or any one else. I can draw conclusions on my own.

      Just as you have.

Funny, you trust the government with what ever they say now, but a year ago, everything was a lie. It can't be both ways. You either question or you sheep.

I know. And have stated the case for medicare elsewhere, and I don't need it getting worse than it is, as it is stated the changes that will be made in the bill...

There are insurances now on TV every day that are inexpensive (at least in my state) that don't exclude preexisting conditions. You just have to look and buy.

Healthcare will never be free, if you think that, then you are delusional.

I always put it first, right up with food, then rent. So it isn't a matter of not affording insurance premiums.

I probably pay more for my medicines and co-pays and everything else on my fixed income, it's more than half of my pay. Do I cry and say I can't afford to pay my insurance? Medicare is NOT FREE and neither are the supplemental insurances or the medicines.

Being handicapped is scary with this bill coming around. I will tell you this.

I don't have anyone to pay for my food, and I made $0.12 too much for food stamps and other medical support thru the state.

I do not get supplemented housing, been on a list for a few years though. So I am on my own. I pay my car insurance, rent, everything else to be a good citizen, but I cannot afford for my quality of life to become worse than it is now -- medically.

I believe there is a way to decrease the costs of healthcare, but the current bill is not it. And a public option isn't practical either. What we need to do is to let insurances truly compete for business across state lines. We need to break up strong holds and start looking at ways of bringing costs down in ways that don't ration or delay treatment.

There is much that can be done. But currently, they seem to be barking up all the wrong trees...

    • OMG, LMAO~, here the democrats that voted for the congressmen are the ones that are feeling violated, betrayed and are voicing their opinions, along with the elderly and the handicapped. So call us what you want.

This isn't a party line thing, it's a survival thing. And everything that is upsetting IS TAKEN LINE BY LINE OUT OF THE BILL ITSELF... NO spoon feeding or propaganda, the bill is clear in what it says. Damn.

Some of you need to get your partisan goggles off and just think about uniting the humans of this country instead of the government's instance of division at every pass...

I've heard several reports and seen the video. Anyone on the left who tries to ask about public option or, more importantly, single payer option, gets shouted down by these right-wing, goosestepping thugs just like the representatives are being intimidated. These obstructions are not about protest, they are about keeping things confused and not letting people be informed about the plan. It's all about making any dem plan fail. Very transparent and very sad.

    • arcticspirit:

What's not transparent is Obama and the information on the plan, if the actual bill items that I for one am upset about am "mis-led" over by... uh THE VERY BILL ITSELF.

GET OVER IT. A Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll conducted over the last week in July found that more people think President Obama's health care proposal is a bad idea than a good one.

According to the poll, 42 percent of respondents said it's a bad idea while only 36 percent said it's a good idea.

Now that we are able to see the bill, combined with the fact that the finance people say the bill isn't financially sound... it's going to be less and less popular as every day goes by.

NO GOP ANYTHING could do as much damage to the health care bill as the health care bill itself is doing to itself by being as bad as it is for Americans. CAN YOU UNDERSTAND THAT?

Any human who truly needs medical care will be in a position where they will read parts of the bill. And they will have no problems telling their congressmen what a load of crap they are trying to push on our country.

      Where is Canada? Just curious...

Funny, why do people of wealth come to the united states when they need a serious cutting edge surgery that isn't available in their country?

Oh it must be our horrible healthcare.

Get your self up to date, in America, where I live, the latest numbers to be generous would be 36% approve of the healthcare bill so far, and numbers are going down. THIRTY-SIX.

The silence is because there is no big GOP plot. Seriously you guys give the GOP too much power and credit, they can't accomplish reactions like this, they never could before and never have before, so how are they suddenly doing such now?

      Answer: They aren't.

    • There are conflicting reports about whteher there will be a public option included or not. last I heard the Dems were insisting that it will be included.

I am surprised that the ultra-media savvy Obama Team is reacting so slowly and so akwardly to the RNC assault on truth.

I figured the first Twitter President would be better equipped to respond to RNC lies than this.

Maybe he has something planned and is just giving the RNC enough rope to hang themselves?

Might be a sound strategy. Let them burn themselves out and make fools of themselves on TV (chanting weird slogans like "Show us the birth certificate!" and "Facist!") and then move in much later look cool and rational in comparison.

The teabaggers, the birthers and now the psychotics are getting a lot of media attention, true, but I doubt it's really winning over any converts. It's just scaring the hell out of a lot of normal Americas who will never vote Republican again.

    • They are wasting their time. I guess they just enjoy spreading fear and hate. The healthcare reform that is being worked on is not what we were promised. I doubt that there will be a public option. It looks like people will be forced to buy insurance from the same companies that have been screwing us for years. Reform?

    • I'm not only shocked at the blatant lies by the GOP, but also the lack of refutation from Democrats on these outrageous claims. And I'm also extremely disappointed that more Americans aren't researching the claims to find the truth. The people who enjoy disliking Obama or Democrats in general are getting plenty of fuel for their rage, but they aren't interested in hearing the truth. They actually seem content with being lied to, so long as it feeds their anger.
