Bomb explodes on Spanish island of Mallorca

MADRID - A small bomb exploded Sunday in a restaurant on the Spanish island of Mallorca, hurting no one, and a second device was deactivated by police, the government said.

The attack happened just over a week after the Basque separatist group ETA killed two police officers on the island. Press reports said officers were searching the popular beach-front area Sunday for a possible third bomb.

The attack was staged just hours after ETA published a statement claiming responsibly for four other bombings this summer that killed three people and injured dozens more.

State broadcaster TVE said on its late afternoon news broadcast that the bomb that blew was in a beach bag hidden in the ceiling of a women's toilet in the restaurant, and the second device was also found in a beach-side eatery.

El Pais newspaper said Sunday's blast came after the restaurants had been evacuated following two phone calls made to a taxi company in the Basque region. The caller, who said he was calling on ETA's behalf, warned of the bombs.

    • Maybe the source os this news doesnt realise that ETA is not a separatist group...it's a TERRORIST group who doesnt defend any right of any population. Because the Basque region in Spain has all the right and so deep independence in his affairs, so stop calling separatist to a TERRORISTS

    • Strike back yes, carpet bomb the entire area no, as there are bound to be some innocents. A surgical strike is needed to be rid of them

    • People have the right to defend themselves from physical attack. If someone punches you, and keeps punching you, you have the right to fuck their shit up. Overkill is acceptable. Nations have the same right. If your nation gets bombed, you have the right to blast the people responsible. Be a pacifist if you want, but remember that violence is what gave birth to the idea.

      Different situation.
Sri Lanka- Small country, Spain- not small country.

White Tigers- Large resistance, ETA- Small resistance.

The Basque nation is so small, Spain could wipe it out with like 4 planes. And I highly doubt the majority of Spaniards would miss the butt holes who bomb them.

Personally I don't think violence, in retaliation or for defense, is acceptable. Violence just creates more suffering. Suffering that is not just endured by those involved in the conflict, but is felt well outside the conflict, whatever it maybe. I don't understand why .we kill each other, just not an ideal quality to have, in my opinion.

    • Horrible, just horrible. I wish that someday people will stop causing others to endure suffering. It would take a major event, positive or negative, (hopefully positive though) for the collective consciousness to unify and elevate to a collective mind, versus it being segmented.
