THC initiates brain cancer cells to destroy themselves - WorldHealth.net

THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, causes brain cancer cells to undergo a process called autophagy in which cells feed upon themselves, according to a study conducted by Guillermo Velasco and colleagues at Complutense University in Spain. Experiments conducted in mice carrying human brain tumors show that the tumors shrank when the animals received THC.

    • Did you know that Marijuana was made illegal based on racism??? The Mayor Of New York, back in the 1940's passed a law to make it illegal because mexicans were selling it to whit people durring
      THE GREAT DEPRESSION...
The mayor had friends in the movie industry and made up a bunch of bull shit to brain wash the people in those days.. And like today, There were a lot of stupid people That believed in everything they saw. So without researching it they passed a law based on bullshit and hype... Do your research guys..

Any evidence on that one? I've seen a certain amount of speculation on why exactly marijuana was included in the original drug legislation. If it really is the 40's though you may be a decade too late. It was already illegal iirc.

    • You don't understand the surgens would localize the cancer cells it doesn't have to attack any others. Look up on Nuero-surgery. I will try to look up John Hopkins research on this and then post it.This is some info from WEB MD.

    • It's not smoking it, the stuff,it is the THC that can be extracted and somehow used to change the cancer cells
they use virus cells to get rid of some cancers, what is the problem with the THC it is a chemical just like any other chemical thats all. .

    • one more point here, all the debunks are saying that because brain cancer patients are not cured buy "smoking" MJ that the studies are wrong. however, they are not testing whether or not this "smoking" of MJ is slowing the progression of the cancer and whether or not it is a targeted application of MJ that is necessary to completely kill the cancer. stick that in your pipe and smoke it Bomb hahaha. anyway love to Ja and all his creations, and may we all have the right to partake of the creator's wisdom through the use of the creator's most sacred herb.

    • I have always said that the medical use of MJ. I am a nurse that has a California 215 and the reason I use it is because my liver was going bad because of use of pain killers. It works on the brain and hopefully the world will see the use of MJ will be used.

    • This study has a statistical sample of two. Two. This isn't research yet. It's just something someone noticed.

As luck would have it, I've known two brain cancer patients in my life and they were both fairly heavy pot smokers. They both died. From this similar statistical sample one might think that pot causes brain cancer.

This is the pertinent part of the article:
"But that actually points out a cautionary tale here, which is that many brain cancer patients are already rolling a joint to treat themselves, but we're not really seeing brain tumors suddenly going away as a result, which we clearly would have noticed if it had that effect."

There may be something going on here. It's worth doing research on, but that's it.

Oh I'm sure. People do like being told what they want to hear and visa versa.

Some people desperately want marijuana to be an amazing wonder-cure all in much the same way that Birthers want Obama to turn out to be some kind of illegal alien and be stripped of the Presidency.

The problem is that the desperation of the birthers, much like some hysterical canibis pseudo science produces evidence so bad that it gives the entire movement a bad reputation.

    • Did you ever notice how, in so many articles in this vein, you have medical researchers, institutions, going "oh yea, we knew about that. It's not a cure, but it has possibilities and we need to look into it." Oh really?

How long have they known about it while they've been busy NOT studying it? Are they waiting for an invitation? Last I heard, some folks where still dying from this. So if it has potential, and they already knew about, then why haven't they been looking into it?

I can tell you in 3 words. War on Drugs.

The Food and Drug administration has veto power over marijuana research because only through them can researches legally obtain the substance to study. If you're trying to prove how bad it is, you have a friend in the Food & Drug Administration. They give their blessing for that research. But you want to investigate the positive aspects? Sorry, no can do. right. And in the meantime people die.

Maybe the wicked weed will save some of them, maybe it won't. But if we don't allow the research we're sure not going to find out, are we? Ever since marijuana has come out of the closet, these people have been coming out of the woodwork. They're like roaches. Every time you turn around there's another one. All these so called experts have been sitting on their hands. As far as I'm concerned they can go right on sitting.

We need some new blood that puts people in front of regulations. We need more researchers with the balls to stand up and go hell with this. Some institutions with grit. Somebody that isn't scared to say I'm going to research it whether you say it's OK or not. Let them come to the community. We'll get all the material for them they want. No problem.

    • cabinettags:

Very well said cabinettags, this is exactly the circumstances that surround marijuana research. Either no research is done; the research is patchy; or it's not allowed in American scientific journals. And why? Because of industry, status quo, and "fear" of the supposed gateway drug. All this so that the government can arrest and/or imprison hundreds of thousands of people for possession while flushing billions of dollars down the toilet to fight this "war".
I recently got arrested for possession, and for that I had to take a drug class (phhf, yea that's what I need), 1 year probation, 24 hours community service (because me enjoying marijuana for my own personal use has done such irreparable damage to my community), 6 months restricted license (because I'm obviously a complete danger to the road...I've never gotten that one), random drug and alcohol test, and a hefty court fine (because Uncle Sam needs a new pair of shoes...and he needs to fund secret wars we don't know about).
And for what? So the government can fool itself into thinking they're doing something about America's drug "problem", while in reality jail time and mandatory minimum sentences statistically fail time and time again.

      But I digress...

He actually developed cancer in a football wound in his big toe. It then metastasized to his liver, stomach, lungs and brain. He refused to seek medical attention; plus, the cancer was malignant.

      But it makes you wonder...

Yes, it became brain cancer but initially developed as a melanoma tumor on his toe. As subject_2_change said, he refused to have the toe amputated and the cancer metastasized. Skin cancer tumors break off and travel through the bloodstream, settling in places like the brain, lymph nodes, heart, and lungs. At that point, death usually occurs within a few weeks. Scary stuff.

    • I checked out Rick Simpson--unbelievable! It's amazing how many times I've run across articles and data stating the incredible therapeutic potential of marijuana, particularly with cancer. But of course, the terrorists will have won if the government admitted it. *sigh*

this guy has been repetitively debunked. The poor guy is a brain injury patient and can't understand how bad his logic is. Suggesting this works to people is purely cruel.

This is exactly the sort of crap that makes medical marijuana backers look like morons.

I'm right about this one though. This guy is famous. Watch the video. There's hundreds of copies around on the net. there was even a big thread about this I remembered participating in on current some time ago.

I'm unlikely to convince jackHerer though. I did a search looking for the article and I found over thirty about this guy. All very similar, all put up by JackHerer. Looks like about one every week or two.

Perhaps he forgets from week to week that he posted the same thing? Or maybe it's advertising.

Feel free to cite some examples of me being an uneducated moron.
