Uninsured conservative town hall activist hurt in fight, asks for donations to help pay medical bill

Yesterday, about 200 conservative activists held a protest outside the SEIU office in St. Louis. Gladney was there -- bandaged and in a wheelchair -- as a featured guest. Some of the activists held signs that read, "Don't Tread on Kenny." Reader R.D. alerted me to this tidbit in the local news account of the protest:

Gladney did not address Saturday's crowd of about 200 people. His attorney, David Brown, however, read a prepared statement Gladney wrote. "A few nights ago there was an assault on my liberty, and on yours, too." Brown read. "This should never happen in this country."

Supporters cheered. Brown finished by telling the crowd that Gladney is accepting donations toward his medical expenses. Gladney told reporters he was recently laid off and has no health insurance. [emphasis added]

Wait, the conservative opponent of health care reform, fighting (literally) to defeat a plan that would bring coverage to those who lose their jobs, lost his coverage because he got laid off?

I'm not in a position to say whether Gladney sustained genuine injuries or whether he's exaggerating for 15 minutes of Fox News fame and a lucrative out-of-court settlement.

Either way, the new right-wing cause celebre needs to take up a collection to pay for his medical bills because he doesn't have health insurance. It's a fascinating sign of the times.

I simply LOVE the fact that people always assume I love Obama or I am not smart enough to realize that neither the Dems nor the GOP have it right.

Yet comparing these two people is so far beyond me, I'm not even sure it's worth arguing over. Maddow is brilliant (and a fair person).

Regarding Obama working for the same banks as Bush... I believe there's a lot of truth to that. I distrust the entire office that is the Presidency.

I have to agree, the first couple of times I ever saw her stuff I absolutely hated her, I do not even remember what it was about, but I compared her to Ann Coulter... now on the other hand Maddow is the only tele-journalist I have respect for... I do not care for our current health care bill because I do not think it is what we need, I think we need single payer, and I think that some of the things this bill has in it will have adverse effects, but what these lobby groups are doing is cowardice, what all lobby groups do is cowardice, and they need to be exposed and outlawed.

don't bother arguing with JJ, he lives in his own world.

I presume he is an old man because only my gramps is so ridiculously stubborn/willfully ignorant.

JJ is content with doing nothing and liking it, so when someone takes action he is quick to say they are wrong for doing so.

He's convinced that no one but himself can be correct and that no answer is always the right answer.

      Lol @ Jammer.

Because I have an opinion other than "It's Wrong". I usually say, "It's Wrong, Here's Why, Here's How We Can Fix it". I am not infallible, but I am strong-willed and opinionated. I am not so stubborn that I cannot see another person point of view as long as I think their point has validity.

When's the last time you actually told someone they had a point? That you came to a revelation about a topic through respectful discourse? That you offered a sincere reversal of opinion on realizing you were wrong?

No one is right about everything. Not even if you believe in every word you say hard enough, because belief doesn't make you infallible, facts do.
      You silly goose.

      So do I.

You just don't like someone who is as, if not stronger, in an opinion.

And it's funny you should say that believing isn't good enough seeing how that's what you are leaking as you type that post.

      .................

      **Sigh.***

Even in trying to prove me wrong, all you do is prove my point.

[I guess if I believe I can fly, then I can. I'll go jump off a high ledge and flap my arms since believing is all that is necessary...

      /end sarcasm]

Furthermore, it's fruitless to continue this banter if you aren't even going to try to meet me halfway. Then again, that was my fault for thinking you would have enough respect for anyone on this board to do that. So go ahead and get your last jab in so you can think that you "beat me" and won the internet.

    • Are there any people in the world who are as good at working against their own interest as the GOP base? The idiocy is staggering.

      Lol..
      "No to socialized medicine!"
"Now, watch me start a fight and get myself hurt!"
"OW! If only there were a way to get medical assistance without being insured, since I lost my job..."
Oh well! Fellow Conservatives, donate money to pay for my medical bills so I can help fight universal health care again!"

The irony is so deafening the stupidity can hardly get a word in edgewise.

      @GnL

It's not a donation system, but it is a participation system. If you choose to keep your private insurance, which you obviously will, then you are paying exactly ZERO into the public option. I know that because your completely nonsensical comments prove that you do not earn over $250,000/yr. Unless you won the lottery.
