YANGON, Myanmar – A Myanmar court has sentenced American John Yettaw to seven years in prison, including four years at hard labor, for entering pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi's home while she was under house arrest.

The 53-year-old Yettaw was found guilty Tuesday of violating the terms of Suu Kyi's detention by swimming to her lakeside home uninvited and staying for two days.

Suu Kyi was also found guilty and ordered to serve an 18-month sentence under house arrest.

The court sentenced Yettaw to three years in prison for breaching Suu Kyi's house arrest, three years in prison with hard labor for an immigration violation and another year in jail with hard labor for swimming in a restricted zone.

It was not clear if the prison terms would be served concurrently.

    • As a Klingon, I am insulted that we are compared to these chicken shit generals from Burma. We will never hide behind trumped up charges. Instead we would have honorably challenged her to our famous Klingon duels to decide our leadership.

    • Are these guys kidding? A guy swims across a lake, stays where he's not supposed to be for two days and gets locked up for 7 years? 4 of them at hard labor? One of those years at hard labor is for swimming in a restricted area?

Why don't they just shoot the guy and be done with it?

And you'll notice that very neatly gets Aung San Suu Kyi out of the way for the supposedly upcoming elections? That saves the junta the trouble of not handing over power to her like they did the last time.

The original story states her sentence was originally 3 years but the "leader" personally cut the time in half to - and here I quote the article "Than Shwe said he reduced the sentence to "maintain peace and tranquility" "

I wonder just who's peace and tranquility that was? It certainly wasn't the Americans nor Aung San Suu Kyi. His own, perhaps?

We need to send the Seals in there are rescue these two. Those generals aren't humans, they're Klingons.
