Selling cancer is legal from an Alien's point of view.

In the 70's very few people from the medical community started to announce a possible link between tobacco use and lung cancer along with many respiratory illnesses.

Forty years of battling against the tobacco industry and the government to finally prove that smoking causes cancer and makes you ill.

Today, it is officially recognized and proven by the medical, scientific community as the major cause of lung cancer and chronic lung disease. In addition, it contributes to cancer of the pancreas, bladder and kidney.
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in both men and women.
It accounts for approximately 32% of cancer deaths.
400,000 people die every year in America because of tobacco use and 2,000 die every day in China.

This was the Alien report.
He arrived from a distant planet and accepted to be interviewed.
Before I started to speak, based on the premise above, he asked me:
How is it possible that your government and all others are letting cancer sticks being sold legally in the full light of the day?

Me:"I do not know what to say, I did not expect -
The Alien:"I would think you humans are being killed slowly and legally by those that make the law.
The government accepts it, the society accepts it.
How come they can sell you cancer and
how do they willingly make you pay for it to kill you with such diseases?"

I tell him: "I do not know".

He goes on saying:
"Yet, Marijuana is illegal?
Bleh,bleh,bleh,bleh"

I guessed the "bleh,bleh" was how they laugh.

The alien continued:
"I would think that your world is upside down just like in a Dr.Seuss book."
I said : "You guys know about Dr.Seuss?
WOW".

The alien:
"I am bewildered by your world.
I would not be surprised to discover your vaccines to be any less toxic that those cancer sticks. I would not be surprised to discover your food and water to be contaminated as well.

How can you approve such a genocide?"
Me: "What genocide?"
The Alien:
"Then, if you ought to kill them all at once, nobody would be there to buy cigarettes no more, nobody would be there to buy medications needed to cure themselves. Nobody would be there to work and produce to enrich the very power that sits and watches and controls. Slowly, very slowly is the strategy.

Indeed you humans are smart."

Me: "Look, I do not know what you know but they are giving us the choice.
The Alien: "What choice?"
Me: "They write down on the packaging of cigarettes a health warning message, it goes like this: "Smoking causes cancer", it varies slightly in other countries.
In different countries of Europe goes like this:
"Smoking is lethal;
Smoking kills;
Smoking causes fatal lung cancer;
Cigarettes contain benzene, nistrosamine, formaldehyde and hydrocyanic acid;
Smokers die prematurely;Smoking is highly addictive, don't start;
Smoking damages sperm and reduces fertility;
Smoking clogs arteries and causes heart attacks and strokes and on and on and on.

Do you see? We have a choice, they inform us."

The Alien:"It is mandatory for humans to wear a safety belt while driving a vehicle, they do not want you to get harmed or killed by an accident. Is that correct?"
Me:"Yes but what's your point?"
The Alien:" Do they sell you vehicles with a warning message too? Something that goes like this: Driving without a safety belt kills you, free to choose.
With or without a safety belt, optional!
Do they?"
Me:"No, there is no such a thing in the market"
The Alien:"Are you starting to see a connection"
Me:"What are you really saying?
How dare you to think they are slowly killing us?
How dare you to think that cancer is legally being sold?
Go back to your planet and leave us alone."

I did lose my temper, I could not stand his arrogant tone and outrageous opinions.
These were the Alien's last words before leaving abruptly: "I am bewildered by your world."


I ask you now: Do you think it is acceptable to sell tobacco to the people? Will it change and how?
