lucky, yes... miracle, no! Please open physics book to all chapters regarding force and motion. Hence the reasoning aim for the back side of the steepest hill... physics can save your life when you jump out of airplanes with bad parachutes... or any time you get behind the wheel of a car... get stuck in a burning building... all sorts of things... science is great!!!! =D

I hope this changes the man's attitude and outlook. This is a personality changing trauma and it could turn out to be the best thing that ever happened to him.
