Over 1/4 of Republicans still think there will be "death panels", 1/3 still not sure

37% of Republicans think that the reform will REQUIRE elderly patients to meet with government officials to discuss "end of life" options including euthanasia - 32% not sure.

When asked to choose if the reform was a government take over of the entire health care system OR the government will provide a non-profit health insurance option to compete with private firms, 60% of Republicans called it a take over - 23% not sure.

When asked if Medicare was a government program or not, 14% of Republicans said it was not, 10% not sure.

This is a result of the misinformation coming from conservative media sources. This same polling group found that the vast majority of Republicans ONLY get their info from Fox.

      And even then, 1/4 of liberals? There's no data to support that. I'm sure less than 10% of "liberals" believe shit like that.

      So the comparison doesn't work. Especially when you consider that these motherfuckers are showing up in droves to shout down opposition.

    • My 87 year old mom and myself had a noce long talk about this"DEATH PANEL" and now sees that it's a crock of shit. We have talked about death alot and we have talked to her doctors about what she wants and se did sign an advance directive and she feels better now that her and her doctor are on the same page as her wishes about what she wants done. She has cancer and CPOD. She doesn't want me or anyone else to have to deside when it comes time. So if I can get through to her I think these other people have to see there are no DEATH PANELS.

      And the newer right-wing loons always make the ones prior to them look nice. What we're seeing now is the emergence of a Republican party more insane than the Bush years were.

      We care about the truth. I respect opinions that are based on commonly known facts, even if they differ from mine. My problem, and the point of this post, is that misinformation is causing people to make uninformed decisions.

      The Democrats have been attempting to negotiate a bipartisan reform bill, but the concessions have been significant and completely one-sided and without any hint of future support from the Republicans. I have a feeling that after this recess, the bill will be pushed through by the Dems.

      Whoa. Whoa. WHOA! I am hoping that little reference to the "liberal" agenda is not being adopted was simple carelessness. I am supportive of the platform on which President Obama ran for President. It was (and is) a Democratic platform, but few planks could be categorically identified as LIBERAL. I can see that some of the more liberal elements of the Party are frustrated that he has not taken a sharp left turn upon entering the White House...too bad. The same is true for Congress. While my home state's population is so small that we only send the two senators and one reprsentative, both senators are what I would describe as "middle of the road" Democrats -- neither liberal nor conservative but rather "practical." That is EXACTLY the kind of Democrat I want to see in Congress, the White House and, to a hopfully steadily increasing degree, the United States Supreme Court.

      Don't get me wrong. The liberal wing of the party has some great minds and wonderful ideas to contribute. But we are at the bottom of a very, VERY deep hole dug for us by our learned colleagues among the Republicans (I am sure they had their reasons for putting us here and that someday they will share those reasons with us with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight (no doubt it will all be Clinton's fault by that point). But with the exception of healthcare reform, I don't want to see or hear legislation containing pixie dust from the libs or bloodlust from the conservative right. I just want the house put back in order at this point. Is that too much to ask?

      I read your rapture ready Republican page. There are 4 categories that would fall under the topic of greed in Corinthians.

      1 Corinthians 6:9,10
      Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
      Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

      Idolaters (covetousness is idolatry), thieves, extortioners, covetousness are all in the greed category. Fornicators, adulterers and effeminate are in the sexual category. There are more categories for greed than for sex.

      So I venture it would be safe to say Jesus would not vote Republican.
