Vandalism he admitted to in open court as part of his plea agreement
He stood emotionless as the prosecutor asked the judge to sentence him to prison

You sentence him to buy the paint and repaint your house, then give him 6 months in jail and 900 hours community service, simple as that.
There are literally murders that don't spend 8 years in prison nowadays! Literally. This punishment doesn't fit the crime.
If his tagging led the murder or rape of someone then 8 years might be alright, but yeah, no. You're wrong.

Maybe if society gives him an outlet to paint graffiti then he wouldn't have to paint on a blank, boring wall "Illegally".
But no, another kid gets locked up for a victimless crime, meanwhile a rapist and a murderer claim another victim. A real victory for the American justice system.
What a load of crap.

On the one hand I'm happy they're making an example of him (well really of anyone) to help stop this problem and I'm happy he's receiving some form of punishment for causing thousands of dollars worth of damage. However, on the other hand, I think that's kinda excessive. Also he's not a violent offender so instead of jail time he should be forced to clear up what he did, repay the victims (slowly over time if not right away) and he should be forced to do a certain amount of community service hours each year from now until he's 60.

I have said it before: All spray paint should be banned from selling to the public.
for all those who claim the "art card," i say,..it is blight, it is unwanted art and an unnecessary expense to the population. - 2 years ago

Take away the paint? Not everyone that uses spray paint tags all over everything. It is an art medium. Those who destroy will find another way...

At the same time you could argue that we should stop selling wall paint, sharpies, pens, stickers, or anything else that's already used as vandalism.
If your method of solving vandalism is to cut access to the products. Than to stop arson we should also stop selling lighters, matches, gas, hair products, or anything that can start a fire.

Exactly my point! Not everyone who uses spray paint goes around committing repeated offenses & felonies. What's ridiculous is that there are plenty of legalized graffiti places where graffers can go now to practice their craft if tagging a wall is a must! But if it isn't, then doing it in the privacy of a studio or in your home, on your own property should not warrant the extremist stance of "ban all spray paint".

I don't see how having taxpayers pay to cloth, feed, and house the kid is justice. It would have been much better to make the kid pay those whose property he vandalized back. Maybe even have him repaint their property.
Again, victims, and the taxpayers get the shaft!

I live in South Texas and go to Corpus Christi All the time. This is a good start These little punks are trying to take over the place. They have no respect for the property of others. they do not own any thing and most will be locked up or covered up before they are thirty. I say send them to a bootcamp and then give them a choice of milatery or school . There is no such thing as a bad child just missdirected Youth.

vandalism is destroying something for no reason.
this isn't vandalism.city governments should stop charging businesses to have murals on their buildings. then this "vandalsim" would be a job market.

A good start? This kid is getting locked for 8 years for graffiti. Maybe a few months or a nice fine, but not 8 years in jail. You may not like graffiti, but it's not worth the harsh punishment for such a minor crime. Make him go and paint over all his shit (and others). Not only will it be punishment, but he will be pissed he's erasing his name.

Kiss off slappy, aint no such thing as 'private property' or property at all for that matter. Just piss off. If I somehow knew you and where you lived I'd tag your entire house and anything else you deemed yours.

Yeah, it was purposely hypothetical ape brain. Art and mere tagging of a name should not, in a reasonable and evolved society, be a crime. Who the fuck in their right minds would think 8 years in a self-destructive system such as the prison system can ever be an effective treatment for the overt behavior of the "criminal" in question? You can't be polarized so completely that your dislike of street punks can overcome your rationalization of irrationality. Think about it. As for believing you own what you possess, wait till you die.

Thargor19, I agree that 8 years sounds over the top but neither you or I area aware of all the facts. Maybe 3 years would have been more appropriate if he has a long history of VANDALIZING PRIVET PROPERTY.
Yes I said VANDALIZING PRIVET PROPERTY. Can you expand on your theory claiming there is no such thing as privet property?
Are you an anarchist?
Oh ya, almost forgot. A prison sentence is not "treatment" is punishment.

Thargor19, whether you feel there should be "privet property" in this world or not means nothing.
The idea that this self entitled d-bag did not do anything wrong is a joke. You and him are part of our society. People can try and live outside society or be a part of it. If you choose to try and live outside it you are still bound by societies laws.
So all the big talk about "there is no such thing as privet property" is exactly that.
