The hit squad proposal, when revealed this summer, caused an uproar because congressional leaders hadn't yet been briefed. The program apparently never got off the ground, and President Obama's CIA director, Leon Panetta, canceled the program as soon as he learned of it before notifying Congress.

"The hit squad proposal, when revealed this summer, caused an uproar because congressional leaders hadn't yet been briefed."
Yeah, had they been briefed, and $uffi¢iently lobbied, they would have been fine with it.

Not that surprising, all things considered. Sure, Eric Prince might be a religious zealot with mind of a sociopath, but deep down he understands the secular language of money just as well.
A roughly battalion strength force equipped with the latest weapons, vehicles, and training can do a lot more than guard a few convoys or keep the odd high-value target from expiring prematurely. It isn't much of an intellectual leap that someone in that organization can set up a hit covertly and make sure someone dies of advanced lead poisoning a few days later...all without the messy diplomatic niceties.

The Bush admin and their crazy fundamentalist supporters forget that the crusades and the inquisition are both regarded by the Catholic Church big horrible events that they are ashamed to have done. Xe what a joke prince and his genocidal friends are just the first wave of psychos coming out of the Bush wars many joined for the very reasons that Xe is now in trouble for just look at the Sothern poverty law center to see the extent of this insanity created by a desperation to support a war of lies and incompetence with racist religious genocide added for good measure.

Ew, Fox sucks, but good article pick.
First, WTF?! Security risk much R U KIDDING BUSH?! k...
Second, these tools charge more, and have less oversight (as if there is any for "the watchers") and really aren't held accountable to the citizenry - but to a corporation! Private contractors such as Blackwater/XE and KBR (former subsidiary of Halliburton) drain our resources in war and lower morale in the military.
Third - Eric Prince is a religious nut - that is not separation of Church and State if he is operating at high levels within the government without election by the people.
grrrr

usually they don't do it themselves because they were going to do some very illegal and unethical things to get them.
It probably would of been effective but it also would given us a whole new generation of terrorists. - 2 years ago
