BTW, if you have no religious authority to talk with: there are social services available through every hospital and long-term care facility that could help direct you.
And a godsend is Hospice. If your loved one is given 6
months or less Hopice will come into the home and do things for the loved one and family that are amazing. - 2 years ago

That's what advance directives are for.
If he's been seen by any health care professionals he's been given these papers as to preparing for these times.
Yes, most older people ignore the advice because they think it's morbid.
Families must get involved before this point and get the parent to do this. Find someone who's legal advice they would trust.
Or get copy of a living will on line and casually ask the appropriate questions. When filled out read them back to the parent and then go to a notary public or have his/her lawyer verify it.
It's the best way to get know what they want done or not done when the time comes.
My parents also assigned certain children to certain 'jobs'. ie. as an RN each wanted me to handle medical decisions.
This is too late for your situation if the time has come.
In that case I would seek advice from your trusted religious authority: a Priest, Reverend, Rabbi, Amman etc.
The whole family must be asked to participate. If they bail out it's their loss.
Being the one that handles everything in this situation can be arduous and thankless. Good luck, and try to be patient. - 2 years ago
