Bush officials rebut Ridge's accusations

From Politico:

'“We went over backwards repeatedly and with great discipline to make sure politics did not influence any national security and homeland security decisions,” former White House chief of staff Andy Card told POLITICO. “The clear instructions were to make sure politics never influenced anything.”

“I’m a little mystified,” former homeland security adviser Fran Townsend added in an interview. “Never in my experience did I see any political influence exerted on the cabinet secretary.”'

We already know that's bullshit. These guys did do not care about anything but political lines and money. Ridge is an ass for waiting so long to blow the whistle on this but and guys are asses for trying to deny it. I cannot believe that I am going to say this but... That being said, GodsnLiberals is right. Nothing is going to come of this.

His point is... that he is a complete moron... the DNC stands for Democratic National Convention son... it can not be refereed to as a plurality... it is a singular event.

No that we have that cleared up... what did you find incompetent about the DNC... provide proof please G&L.

    • And I will give him a big straight kiss on those big gay lips too... Thanks for exposing your self as a bigot by the way... big bold move... really helps build the necessary character appeal needed to be taken seriously.

You my dear, said Mr. Frank's was gay,I didn't say any such thing.
I don't care what his preferences are.
I just like the sound of the word Uranus, childish humor, maybe?
Thought it might give you a chuckle! Guess not. Humorless twit. Did I say that? Sorry, humorless yes, but I don't know you enough to call you twit.

    • I seem to remember people screaming "profiling" and wouldn't let the airport security do their jobs. So instead of pulling aside people who fit the description of terrorists and patting them down they were roughing up little old ladys and children.
Yes, the whole Homeland security thing was a fiasco. We already had home land security, we didn't need another government agency.
We needed the ones we had to work together. The CIA, FBI,the armed forces, NSA, State Police, Coast Guard, the Treasury dept, cut all the BS and rhetoric and work together.

I am going to take a cue from Barney Frank

"On what planet do you spend most of your time?"

They are over zealous about their jobs... when people said they were profiling... they said "No shit!!!" Even Cat Stephens can not make it through without being detained... You are way of base on this one lady.

For the sake of curiosity... why did you add the Treasury Department into that list? Are you worried that they are not detaining tax evaders at airport security?

You can't figure out what the Treasury dept. has to do with security? Think about it for a minute!
And unlike you I have lived on planet Earth all my life.
And if you think I've become a Judas to your Christ you have way over estimated yourself.
I don't profess to know everything. But I'm not a blowhard! And back to Barney Frank, when you see him on Uranus say, "Hi!"

    • We need to just get it over with, and fry the whole administration... and feed them a good cocktail of sodium pentothal and atropine to find out what other stupid BS they pulled before we close the last of those torture loop holes their administration was so good at boring into our policies.

    • Andy Card can say no one was pressured/influenced, because he wasn't the one pressured/influenced for political reasons....so his statement is meaningless.

    • OUCH!

It's gotta hurt when one of your own comes out and announces your administration was, let's be honest here, TREASONOUS.

    • The Bush Admin had a long and colorful history of politcizing everything (up to and including calling anyone who dared question them "traitors").

I remember there was a lot of controversy at the time the terror alerts were raised because it didn't seem to be in junction with anything. New York was never warned to be on the look out for XYZ nor was Chicago ever told that there was a threat of ABC....and there was no additional security or screening at the airports.

There was a "threat" but absolutely nothing changed leading a lot of people to wonder what was really going on.

And now the main guy is coming out and saying, "Yeah. I was told to do it because they were trying to win the election."

      Seems believable to me.

But there was a big change at Pittsburgh International Airport. They took everything off of you. They kept my daughter's bottle of water, her fruit snack and her pepper spray on her car keys (I gave her to use when she's alone getting into or out of her car.)
They got rid of carry-on bags for a while. You couldn't even have an emery board.

Hell, the first time back to Philadelphia to see the historic sites you had to go through a metal detector. They kept nail files and blunt nursing scissors. A little 2" pen knife my friend had since childhood to cut fruit with! It was totally crazy.
Before 911 I could walk right up and into any of the buildings without anyone approaching me even with my knitting needles sticking out of my bag.......

He was not referencing the changes they made to security of buildings and what is allowed on air planes... he is talking about the threat level being raised in 2003 right before the election. When they raise the threat level they are supposed to have even more exaggerated screening like pat searches for everyone and a whole lot more security staff and police on site in case of an incident... but even thought the threat level was raised they did not go through with the even greater security precautions, they just did what the had been doing like taking away pin knives, pepper spray, and containers over 3oz... and did not add extra police or personnel.

    • crob80227:

Actually they quit allowing friends and family into the main terminal. Only passengers.
After they build another main terminal you have to ride a high speed train to get to because it's so far away from your car. Then with a lot of steps and escalators you are up at least one story from the tarmac. You now can go to be with your family but they are bottlenecked between employees checking them out to get on the plane. out.

    • crob80227:

So all they did was.....SLIGHTLY increase airport security?

I distinctly remember the mayor of New York going on TV to complain that he was not notified of any threat.

No one in any major city was.

It was akin to screaming "Fire!" and then casually walking away.

If there really was a fire then something significant should have happened --- something more significant than taking someone's shampoo at the airport before allowing them to board.

When the news people asked what the "threat" was and was it averted....again the reporters were met with only blank stares from the Bush Admin.

"What are you talking....oh! Right! Yeah! We, uh, well, it's all over now. All fixed!"

      Right. Sure.

S'funny how the next time there was an election -- shock! -- the threat level went up again.

And again there didn't seem to be any orders given to any mayors of any cities to be on the look out for anything. Once again Bush screamed "Fire!" and then walked away.

Nurse knows what you are saying, and it's true. I live in L.A. and nothing, absolutely nothing changed from one day to the next after these "alerts" were announced. Nurse is just one of those rock ribbed "republicans are virtuous" individuals. You take everything nurse says with a grain of salt.

    • Must have been a 'brain fart' moment for someone!
Here goes a race to check all those documented messages! Who said what, to who, and when and why?
Here we go just like the Hillary thing with the missing files that miraculously appeared on the First Lady's desk months later a lacking the evidence!
      Can we say,"shredded"?
