We can use Gay Marriage as a wedge issue on this. More than 70% of people under 30 are for gay rights.
Today's children don't understand why we even argue over it. That answers the question.
Love conquers all.

Randallr01, try not to operate so much under the concept that age cures all. Many of my peers have let the passage of time mire them deeper in delusion and stubborn refusal to learn anything new. AS with most ideas and concepts in life the lessons and ideas that come from them are more relevant to who is hearing them. No matter how good or how right the the message, the person receiving it must have the ability to interpret and if needed make change. The ability to make change becomes a very rare and precious thing with every day that you count.

I'm simply saying that young people are tolerant and accepting of gay rights.
I'm sure there will be more cultural battles in the future, and you are right that there will be plenty of this generation and the next who become stubborn and refuse to change, but I have hope that we can only ever move forward.

randallr01:
Using young people as an example, we of the hippy generation were once young. Idealistic would probably be more to the point. A great deal of this generation are now wing nuts. There are also more than a few younger people that aren't as tolerant of change as you might think. Skinheads and gangs come to mind. I think progress or positive progress depends more on opening minds to new and better possibilities. On this point I agree with you. It is easier to through to people if they aren't already of a certain mindset.

We could send all the bible thumping ding dongs to Texas and the deep South and call it good.
Northern California, Oregon and Washington should form their own union: Ecotopia.

Cultural differences are given too much weight in the big scheme of things. We should always be mindful that even the most ignorant among us still have an opinion. The scary part is they also get to vote.

expressing his discontentment is a fair enough way to provoke change, no?

This is nothing but good news. This means the socially conservative wing of the Republican party will begin to fade as the libertarians can begin to take over. The Democrats will never be able to beat that combo of intelligence in the social arena and finance.

They already did, it was called the election of 1964.
Barry Goldwater vs. Lyndon Johnson.
It's also called the biggest landslide in American history.

Speaking of liberals, GL. Have you considered that your god might be a liberal? The Bible, Koran, New Testament, Torah and the Old Testament all say that this particular god loves everyone. Show me a conservative that can make that claim with a straight face. Peace on ya.

Today's liberals are tomorrow's conservatives, or so goes the old adage. I'd say that proves you wrong.
And regarding GnL's typical modus operandi, I'd say he aims to distract rather than contribute.
