Jan Souman, a psychologist at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics in Tubingen, Germany, recently published his findings, that people actually really do walk in circles when lost, without any land marks to guide them.
Another finding that was found after the experiment was conducted on nine people, that when people walked during overcast or nightime environment they were more likely to go round in circles then people who could see the sun or moon, who managed to travel fairly straight.
